I think I'm right in recalling the word Mot from doing French at school a lifetime ago.
It translates as word in English. A rather appropriate name for the famous commentator who used them to fine effect in a long life and career.

There was Wolstenholme and then there was Motty, no other commentators come close. Genuinely saddened by his loss, RIP John Motson, legend amongst all footy fans.

A consumate professional, always preferred him to Barry Davies. You could tell he was a true fan of football, not after promoting his self-image, he'll be sadly missed.

I was at that game and I think I remember the commentary more than anything else , I think most of us of a certain age could do it word perfectly .

I ripped it off VHS onto my hard drive - along with all the season reviews - 1988 to 2000
