George Segal. 87 years young.
Always watchable with a impish expression at times. I likened him to Jack Lemmon a bit. He had a cameo role as a cad in Look Who's Talking and appeared on TV's Larry Sanders Show as the guest who could always be relied on to fill in at the last moment. I enjoyed those minor performances just as much as anything more distinguished that he did.

There are now two fewer American writers.

RIP much-loved children's author Beverly Cleary. When I was a young sprout my favorite of her characters, wee Ramona Quimby, set a high bar for headstrong willfulness which I did my best to emulate. Clearly lived to 104. Ramona will live longer.

RIP Larry McMurtry, whose main theme, broadly speaking, was the American West. His books often became successful films but were still much better as books. Dead at 84.

Cloris Leachman (Mary Tyler Moore's landlady in the eponymous TV comedy) won an Oscar for her role in The Last Picture Show...she died last year.

Also starred in one of the very great war movies, well prisoner of war, King Rat. Gave a brilliant performance in a brilliant movie, well worth a watch if you have the time.
