Sat next to him at at a Dinner when he was awarded "Parliamentary Beer Club" Beer Drinker of the year c1999 or 2000. Lovely fella. RIP.
Apropos, nothing at all, a Labour MP invited 2 or 3 of us back to The House of Commons for a beer in the Strangers Bar afterwards. We sat on the terrace and spotted Francis Lee on the next table. Surreal night.
