....really, i’d be very interested in that. Scored 5 there in an English Schools Trophy game, loved that pitch felt you couldn’t miss such was the set-up. Houses there now sadly, but Walton Hall Avenue is a fine home for Liverpool Schools.
Did you play for Liverpool schoolboys? If so did you come across a goalie called John Lawtin or something similar...cant remember his last name accurately..may have been Lawson? Off topic..soz......Smith was part of the team with which shankly started the cult persisting to today...

....I did, Matey, but that name is not familiar to me. Sorry. Certainly wasn’t the years I played.

Back in the 1990's I attended a Reading Football Club Sportsman's Dinner. The guest speaker was Tommy Smith. Sadly, he struggled to walk in spite of having two walking sticks. He was very funny, gave an excellent speech. He said that all the Liverpool players didn't like the Liverpool captain, Emlyn Hughes. He said that one game against Chelsea, Ron (chopper) Harris clogged Emlyn Hughes who had to have the trainer on. While he was being treated, Tommy Smith said that several Liverpool players sidled up to Ron Harris and shook his hand. RIP Tommy Smith.
In 1949 I had a trial for Liverpool boys, played at Penny Lane. I was only 13 and all the other players were a couple of years older, it was like playing against men!
Never heard any more.
