That series wouldn't pass the PC test of today on lots of levels, but it was funny.
Him as the sergeant major trying to beast Don Estelle was a joy to behold.

Loved that programme - agree about the PC thing but at the time was priceless and Davies and Estelle were excellent RIP Sgt Major

When I think of It Ain't Half Hot Mum and shows like that it just take me back to being a kid and watching them with my Grandad and laughing none stop.

Old Sargent Major shut up was the best part of a brilliant show. His great lines and delivery always cracked me up.

I quite liked him in the show but his catchphrase "Oh dear, what a pity, never mind" was adopted ad nauseam by a million moronic gaffers and office managers in the 1980s.
