The dawn of a new era in Football

Isnt Messi's new deal about that?

And Ronaldo earns more than £1m a week already. Like, his total income, not "just" his RM weekly sub.

A report I read said Messi's new deal was something like £500,000 take home. I'm not sure what the tax situation is like in Spain but he must be getting close.

I can remember the shock when first Roy Keane got a £50,000+ a week deal and then soon after Sol Campbell did his Bosman and became the first £100,000 a week player.

How easy it would be for some of these clubs to reduce ticket prices to say a tenner a match for your standard ticket. The money in the game is just ridiculous these days.

I get your point but we sold Stones for how much, we well and truly saw Man City coming there.
Swings and roundabouts sometimes.

Fair point.... Although we had the media on our side with Stones.... The English media hype machine was in overdrive, which always doubles the value of young English players...

I really want sigurdsson, but 50m is daft.....

And they still apparently dodge the taxman? Messi & Ronaldo a right couple of Toryboys eh!

Not sure about anyone else but personally I'm just enjoying the ride. Not very long ago at all we were scraping around for loans and bargains, now we're either 'ruining football', or being 'mugged off' for players who aren't worth their transfer fees. For me it's just nice to be in the conversation. I'd rather be 'mugged off' than out of the running all together.

Up the Mersey Billionaires!

Yes, forgot about the English thing.

Me too, but I agree, it's hard to price players these days but I'd have thought between 30 and 35, max for our Icelandic friend

Nope. 75 plus 15 in add-ons plus Rooney free (when valued at 10) = 100

Hey, that equation should be in the school curriculum :dodgy:

If Rooney was a Free transfer (which he was), then he has nothing to do with the Lukaku price tag.... United wanted rid of him remember (because his wages were huge and he wasn't good enough to play for them anymore)...

The 15m add-ons aren't much good to us, as

1. They might not be achieved (Top 4 is debatable, League Title wins is highly unlikely)...

2. If they are achieved (ie Top 4 finish), then it will mean we've missed out on Top 4 (fair to assume Chelsea, City and Spurs will be there again, so that's United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton fighting for one spot)...

Chelsea or City again...i think Spurs will drop back a bit this year..UTD for third and then a scramble from Us, spurs, liverpool and the Arse for the one remaining place in the Champions League...i don't think we're strong enough yet to get there, but if we continue on this path then who knows
This
Spurs playing at Wembley will have a negative effect on them
RS haven't got a squad capable of playing weds / Sat in Europe.
Arsenal will always be unpredictable esp if Sanchez goes.
4th place may just be up for grabs esp if we get out transfers completed early and hit the ground running in the first 8 fixtures a lot of which are difficult

If anybody thinks that the Rooney and Lukaku deals are not linked then that's just being Naive
Utd also paid half his wages for the 2 years of his contract.
Spurs playing at Wembley may be a handicap to them this season

A conservative figure means we got £100 million for lukaku
£75m intially
£15m add ons
£10 was the price of Rooney

UTD then paid £14m to Riola for agents fees
AND £15m to pay off the last year of Rooneys contract @£300 a week!

All in Utd will pay almost £130m for Lukaku...thats just ridiculous!

Well apparently Pickford was way over priced at £30m, and Klassen and Keane etc etc...with the advent of £53m right backs, i think even given we might spend something similar on Sigurdsson then you'd have to say in the grand scheme of things, we have got something of a bargain with our guys because this transfer window is going to go ballistic, and all the other teams will be scrambling to spend their share of the sky money. This transfer window will go absolutely mental and all those saying we have over paid are going to feel so much better by the end of it, what next? 1st £70m Centre back

Spurs were selling him to a direct competitor who finished 1 place behind them in the league to a team with unlimited resources. I think it will be one of the biggest transfers of the summer behind Lukaku
