The Curious Case of Nikica Jelavic and Papiss Cisse

Moyes has ruined him like he has ruined every striker he has touched!

Radzinski, Beattie, Johnson, Yakubu, Saha, etc etc. by trying to make them all like Marcus Bent - close down and win throw-ins!!!

Look at Yakubu when he went to Blackburn - finished at Everton, then 17 league goals for Blackburn! Even a tactical idiot like Steve Kean seen that Yakubu should be told to hand around the centre half/edge of the box and nothing else! Jelavic should be doing the exact same!

Also he has been very unlucky as well, as mentioned against Chelsea... and the fact that Naismith messed up 3 or 4 simple balls/crosses to him in recent games.

It also doesnt help that Philip Neville is in the team, means Jelavic has to close down/work channels because we are effectively playing with 10 men!

Radzinski - ****
Beattie - Over hyped English Centre forward, scored a few for Southampton and thats is level
Johnson - See above but with Crystal Palace
Yakubu - The injury ruined Yakubu at Everton; plus he was always known for banging them in for his new clubs; after the novelety wears off he goes off the boil
Saha - Was past it years ago, everyone accepted it. Bag full of talent, but not someone you want leading your line week in week out.

Jelavic is just going through one of them patches; every striker has them. Its nothing to do with Felli being up to top or lack of balls, because he his getting chances and just not converting them. Last year everything he touched went into the back of the net. Its a confidence thing; take the Wigan game for example, he was clean through on goal, on his left foot, last year he would have smashed it in, but due to lack of confidence he trued to cut back on his right and lost possesion.

And the Neville comment is just pathetic

It's the second season syndrome working against Jelavic and yet he has scored seven and worked tirelssly for the team.
Our three points against Newcastle was because of outstanding set up play be Jelavic. He is an allround player that contributes more to the team than just goals.

When you watch the next game, count how many times Jelavic lays it off or back from out wide to either, Pienaar, Baines, Coleman etc. Drives me mad, he's not gonna score at the corner of the box. He's known for his one touch finishing around 12 yards out, this proves difficult 6 yards from the corner flag.

Oh and Cisse is really rubbish at football, how anyone could possible let him play wide right is one of the biggest jokes in football. He just falls about and kicks people, don't even get me started on his passing, I'll start laughing and likely never stop.

Also count how many times he's in the box when the wide men get the ball, I guarantee its significantly more.
Sometimes when launching a counter attack its pointless aiming into the middle of the box where there are 2 CB's, however if their LB or RB has bombed forwards, chances are Jela can get the ball if he heads to the space left behind.. he holds it up and starts an attack.. whilst its being knocked around he heads back into the box where he is marked by several defenders who sit just in front of him to stop the one touch shot they now know is going to happen. Previously people expected a first touch.

I'm sure it is, he is a striker after all. Thanks for pointing that out.
No one is asking the man to stand completely marked constantly so that's an awfully pressumptious of you, it's the fact as previously pointed out he has to move to create space for Felli who is effectively where he was last season in some cases. When he moves out, plays the ball back he's effectively out of position. As also pointed out, Cahill worked harder than Felli and ran into channels leaving Jelavic more centralised more often, hence being in the right place at the right time which proves to be advantagous for a striker. That's just my opinion, just like yours above, I know how strikers work and what other things Jelavic does so I fail to see the point of most of your post. I'm just offering a theory.

against Swansea Jelavic had 5 shots at goal but 0 of them ended up on goal - all 5 were wide - not good enough for me - sorry -
how much more time\matches must Mr Moyes give him to find his form ? a clear answer will be appreciated -

How can he do that when he has a big static Fellaini sitting exactly where you describe. Fellainis imobile and a crap partner for any striker. He very really flicks anything on. Always got his back to goal.

For the above reasons Jelavic is doing all the closing down running the channels etc. this is what cahill done for Jelavic last season. Fat chance of Fellaini moving at all

The same happened to Beattie, Johnson, Yakubu, and Saha mate

I'm still not certain whether he really is a top class all round striker but he certainly suggested last season that he is a gifted finisher. Other Blues strikers from recent years have been mentioned in other posts but they haven't been incredibly notable in their times at Everton despite all being decent strikers. Going back a bit further then.....I remember years ago when we got Kevin Campbell in late in a season and he scored some goals that more or less kept us up. He wasn't a technically gifted striker but the ball somehow hit him and went in the net.

We kept him for six years or so (1999 to 2005) and he scored 36 goals in 137 appearances. That works out at 1 goal in every 3.8 games. He was fairly popular in his time and we didn't lose patience with him after one season.

Jelavic's ratio this season is 1 goal every 3.14 games (7 in 22) and since he joined us is 1 goals every 2.11 games (18 in 38). It's been a while since we had a striker that scored 18 in 38 games (essentially a league season) so his record actually looks pretty good.

He'll get his mojo back soon I am sure, but he isn't being helped by playing alongside an advanced Fellaini who plays with his back to goal and drags defenders straight back into the box. Jelavic needs a foil who will drag them away from him and create just that yard of space that a striker needs to get into and to turn and shoot.
