The Curious Case of Nikica Jelavic and Papiss Cisse

meh, we don't have the finances to afford an all round amazing goalscoring striker because they cost about £20-25m. Do think he just needs to stay in the box more, but he has been a great buy for this club. could probably do with anichebe next to him instead of on the right wing as they combined brilliantly for the winner at newcastle.

cisse was a flash in the pan for me. some of the goals he scored last season were out of this world and if hed been doing that consistantly in the past he would have cost well more then £9m. Obviously they weren't flkukes, just probably the sort of thing that happens when a player 1st joins a new club. we'll see now he's the main striker again

Think he`s having to work harder to get his chances this season because defenders and opposition managers now know how he plays and he`s not getting as much space. Then when he gets a chance he seems to be rushing them a bit. The people saying its because fellaini is playing up with him well he was the same when fellaini was out for 3 games. If he keeps working hard he`ll get his form back and start to take his chances again, i have faith in him.

Naismith and Jelavic have been good signings.

hope it bleeds, lol, lets see what everyone thinks at the end of the season, because at the start if you had told me that jela would have 6 league goals and naismith would have the 1st touch of jimmy saville then I would have laughed you out of here but it seems to be the case

Im sick of all the theories to be honest. He just isnt getting the drop of the ball. Hes been unlucky with some. Poor finishing with others

Fellaini and Gibson can spot a through ball early whereas he will have to hold his run waiting for Osman and Neville to notice him.

Im yet to see him play a through ball since playing the number 10 role. Felli is great at bringing the ball under control and bringing others into play with a simple pass but he never turns and looks to thread a through ball to Jelavic.

Every striker we have who starts off great in the first season, then has the tendency the following season to go looking for the ball in the channels, frustrates the hell out of me, why not stay in the middle, also with Jelavic the amount of times he is off side is ridiculous

Just following orders unfortunately. It was to accommodate Cahill as the main attacking threat (and long punt outlet) for a few years now its to do the same for Fellaini but at least he's not tiny and can actually win flick ons or control the ball when it is launched to him!

I noticed the through ball thing yesterday - Osman had a perfectly good chance to thread it through in the first half, jelavic was screaming for it but he looked out wide for baines or pienaar.

Jelavic is limited both by our instructions (plan A get to baines for cross to felli, or plan B long ball) and the lack of real creativity in the middle of the park without Gibson.

Last season when Jelavic was slotting at will, his strike partner was as follows:

Cahill: 5
Tottenham
Swansea
Sunderland FA Cup
Norwich
Liverpool FA Cup

Fellaini: 3
Fulham
United
Newcastle

In the 8 games he scored. Gibson played in 7 of them. Jelavics debut was the only game he Gibson did not play in when Jelavic scored.

For me its a mix of Gibson being out and Fellaini being up front. Between the two I just dont think hes had the same freedom/service.

Cahills movement undoubtedly gave him more space. Fellaini is static and doesnt really open the centres back up with movement. The static Fellaini leads to crowded 6 yard box. Jelavics predatory area.
