Current Affairs The Conservative Party

I think we might be in a period now (with the Tories bust and Corbyn as secure as he can be at the LP helm) where we see Corbyn edge toward institutional "respectability" on some issues. He's already turned his leadership toward being a champion for manufacturing capital and I reckon we'll see some softer approach towards policy sacred cows. Corbyn/McDonnell are within touching distance of No.10 and they are parliamantarians above all, not revolutionaries.

A point so often over looked

The Tories have an existential crisis mate. They have not won an election by more than 10 seats (so something approaching a workable government) in over 30 years. Everything they have done in that time has been continued short termism (with the brief exception of a period under Cameron/OSbourne) and has made the longer term viability more challenging. They are now basically the party of the old and the demographic crisis becomes more difficult with each year.

On top of all of that they have now got themselves on the wrong side of their key allies/backers. 99% of FTSE 100 companies wanted remain, the banks, the apparatus of the state, MI5/Mi6 etc. All the people they are meant to be a safe pair of hands for. They are left fighting on the wrong side of the equation for the first time since the corn laws.

The desperate attempts to rid Labour of Corbyn are exactly this. They want the B team to run the establishment for a bit but despite continued efforts it hasn't worked. The C team (Lib Dems) are nowhere to be seen. It's an absolute cluster*ck and people will be getting sever dressings down as a result.

One thing is certain though, none of the problems go away with Bojo in charge. OR Rees Mogg. The problems mount up for them.

The few smart Tories that exist knew that the Conservatives had become very much the Party of Brexit and their only chance was to ensure May made a success of it. They have well and truly screwed that plan up as well.

I think they are very close to the Liberal party of 1918 moment.

By my clock its nearly twenty five past seven.

We have got to the point with Conservatism in the UK, that you can work full time, yet have to be benefits to survive, also unable to buy a home in large swathes of the country etc. For anyone to let that continue deserves a right good political kicking, and much thanks to the self interest of commentators and media, who were only to keen to tell us how different Corbyn was to Blair, Jeremy stands well away from the new Labour era.

I’d vote Labour in any upcoming election but we have to be realistic that no national government will be able to fix all of those issues, without simultaneously tanking the economy. The lack of wealth distribution is the main issue and no single nation can solve that. IMO.

Perhaps that is mays final move in all of this?

Commit political suicide to hand it over yo corbyn who struggle in the conditions and therefore give Tories for years the ammo they need.

I'd never have suggested Tories were that stupid, but this lot might just be stupid enough to do that. Corbyn in power would be what he is - a relatively moderate socialist. He would probably put the Tories out of power for a generation as it became clear what it was they have done.

New Labour had Iraq, Liberal Democrats had the coalition with Conservative Government, and Conservative Party now has Brexit, all defining and dying associations The establishment for the last 40 years is pretty much finished now!

That's just depraved some of those txts, surely he has got to be removed from the Party if any disciplinary have concluded, however, would not be surprised if they try and use his resignation as Conservative party response!
