"City donors have slashed their contributions to the Conservative party this year, as confusion around Brexit angers both its europhile and eurosceptic benefactors.
Contributions from the 20 largest City donors — which include hedge fund founders John Armitage of Egerton Capital, Michael Hintze of CQS, and Mark Coombs of Ashmore Group — fell by 74% in the last six months, compared with the first half of last year.

Tim Bale, professor of politics at Queen Mary, University of London, said the decline in donations could be seen as “a signal to those at the top” of City chiefs’ disenchantment with government.
He likened the money given to the Conservative party by the City to “an insurance premium against the risk of a government doing something stupid”, but added that currently “you might as well be insuring yourself against fire with a proven arsonist.”"

Plenty of sticks to beat them with but that's unfair imo. Like saying government debt goes up after a natural disaster and blaming the government. No one made the argument for not bailing the banks out.

That's not the point.

The post is not criticising Labour for increasing the debt in order to bail out the banks. The world was days if not hours away from the entire financial system breaking down without this intervention.

The point is to criticise the Tories, who savaged Labour for increasing the debt (all the while conceding that bailing out the banks was necessary) only to in turn dramatically increase the debt even further still.

Unlike Labour, which briefly increased the debt to do something essential and productive - namely, saving the global financial system - the Tories increased the debt in order to acheive something spiteful, decadent, and catastrophic - namely, further enriching the most comfortable people on the planet, at a cost of tanking the British economy to this day, while making life significantly more miserable for virtually everyone else.

As widely expected at the time, austerity has served only to further expand the debt, while setting the economy back at least a decade, and bringing the British public to its knees.

This is the point of the original post.

It is a stick the Conservative Party should be beaten with relentlessly, until it ceases to be electable altogether.
