I had that thought too simply because it makes absolutely zero sense so one has to assume he's not totally insane. But I can't for the life of me think of a reason myself.

Nor me, unless he believes existing law can be applied, or something to do with human rights. On the face of it it's a no brainer, but being a barrister he may have some legal opposition. But he needs to be asked the question.....

Or maybe he’s just got a wandering selfie stick...

Having read his previous form, he’s getting no benefit of the doubt here.

His record seems to be objecting to all sorts, i'd like to know his actual reasoning

I hope the media are going to get him to publicly explain his objection to having the act of people taking unwanted pictures of female genitals being deemed unlawful, because I am genuinely fascinated to hear it.
I've caught a fella doing this in work.
I got him nicked too.
Had a big knife and all sorts on him.
Could have been up to anything that day.
When police searched his gaff, they found video footage too.
He had set up cameras in public toilets as well in a shopping centre.

Full on weirdo who deserved the sentence he got.

BBC.......

“Sir Christopher is a leading member of a group of backbench Conservatives who make a practice of ensuring that what they see as well-meaning but flabby legislation is not lazily plopped on to the statue book by a few MPs on a poorly attended Friday sitting.
And after all this is a bill to create a new criminal offence, for which people can go to jail.
So, however worthy the cause, he insists on proper, extensive scrutiny, and he has spent most Commons Fridays for the last 20 years doing just that.
Indeed, a few minutes before he blocked the upskirting bill, he was forcing a delay to the final debate on the Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Bill, or Seni's Law, which also had strong support from the government.
The upskirting bill is not dead - there will be other opportunities to get it a formal second reading debate - but they will only succeed if Sir Christopher and his allies can be persuaded not to object again.
The only other alternative is for the government to provide debating time for it, or, far more likely, to add the proposals to a bill of their own.”

So delayed on principle really.

Always best to check the facts.

That actually is not a bad idea.

I'm actually glad to read that. Don't actually agree with it to be totally honest but at least it means he isn't actually legit insane.

It’s an odd one. The mans scum of the highest order, but does have a point in that it does actually need debating if it’s to create a new jailable offence.

And as a judge, or a legal bloke anyrate, maybe he has seen loads of well intentioned but flawed laws pass onto statute.

Never heard of the bloke till 1/2 hour ago, but it appears he and a few others do this often, to ensure a secure and correct law is in place.
