when people are saying its a small thing that it doesn't matter when compared to running the country, that is kind of the point isn't it.

I might not agree if they cut money in social care to fund the navy or whatever but it obv has a benefit somewhere. here, they doing such a 'small' unnecessary act that serves no purpose other than them enjoying themselves at that particular moment, which everyone else is banned from doing it. there is no positive thing about it and now with the continued lying. If they admitted it last week or so, it would have all probably been over by now.

genuinely disgraceful
The simple matter is, there is no "more important thing" to think about than covid. Objectively it is the biggest risk to the uk and as such impacts on every other area that might be "more important". Precisely because it impacts education, justice, nhs, social care, economy; through its capacity to disrupt key services and functions and cause mass casualties. At a time when people were forced to sacrifice, to ensure "more important" things could continue, while many sacrificed against great hardship - unable to see loved ones dying, unable to get life saving treatments, unable to pay rent - arguing now that there are "more important things" to focus on, is pure contempt for the public.

Regardless of feelings towards the royals, compare the imagine of the queen, the head of state, sat alone mourning the death of her husband to the PM spokesperson joking her way through a mock press conference trying to justify the suggestion of a party.

I just think the momentum is building to Boris going. It's leak after leak. Media turning on him.
Somebody or a group of somebody's want him out.
I think we’re a long way from that. Would need internal pressure and someone from the Tory party to take a big and public stand. They’ve been proven to be total cowards. ‘Private sources’ talking of discontent etc but they all still tow the party line. No principles.

Conservatives +5

Probably.

It’s entirely unsurprising to me that those at No 10 broke the rules they’d set. We’ve seen all this before with Cummings and Hancock.

It’s the lies. It’s the obviousness of those lies. The disrespect it shows for people to just lie to them when it’s clear that it’s a lie.

The fact that large swathes of the public seem to like being lied to like this, blows my mind.

Look on here. People will blame Starmer etc. The fact of the matter is, people want to vote Tory. They look for excuses not to vote for other parties and will always find them

At this point I reckon Johnson should do a press conference, while behind him on a big screen plays a video of MPs and staff at a party last Xmas, while he stands at the podium, looks straight to camera and denies that the party behind him ever took place.

Armando Ianucci might steal this for the next series of The Thick of It

Malcolm Tucker busting in to pretend it didn't happen and swearing up a storm

You’re right, of course.

But there are some things that I think usually cut through, as they tap into the deep sense of fairness and justice that the vast majority of people have, on all political sides.

The well documented corruption, and contracts for their mates, coupled with the outright lies, I really would hope cuts through with the electorate. If not, any innate sense of the value of honesty or integrity is depressingly absent from the population.
