Bruce, better get a new atlas. Wokingham is in Berkshire, many miles from London.
It is but it's a very popular commuter town into the capital, so is much a part of London as Stevenage or Woking. An ex-girlfriend used to live there and good luck getting onto a train into London in the morning.

*edit, no, hang on, she lived in Weybridge but I'm sure the same applies to Wokingham (see above from @Harryflashman about everywhere being kind of London  )

Having had the misfortune to do it myself, most people who work in London can't wait to get out. Their view of London is 'work'. There is little chance that their views are influenced by physically being in London.
I do agree with your views on John Redwood though.

The investigators’ report into Roberts said that he had accepted that “aspects of his behaviour” towards a staff member were “inappropriate” and had offered to apologise but that he “rejected the categorisation of his conduct as ‘sexual’, preferring the term ‘romantic’”

Imagine that being used for other things?

"I wasn't filled with a murderous rage when I punched that person to death, I prefer the term 'little bit ticked off'"

His victim didn’t think it was romantic, they said it was sexual harassment. Saying that makes it even worse for the victim. However no surprise that he has been readmitted.

Depends I guess. Mates of mine love it there. Often feels a bit transitional for a lot of people I think. They like living there but want to move somewhere else for a family or retirement etc.

I think London is ace. If you visit and go to the usual tourist traps then yes, you are going to have a really skewed view of it.

But if you know it, and understand that it’s about 20 cities in one and they are all very different (a night out in Brixton is very different to Mayfair, is very different to shoreditch, is very different to Angel), then you’ll probably love it.

I lived in Tooting but fortunate that my job took me to all corners of the city going into people's homes.

I'd get different addresses every day to places I'd never been before and travelling everywhere by foot and public transport enabled me to explore a million places and still feel like I hadn't even scratched the surface.

I absolutely loved London but can understand some people feeling overwhelmed or that it isn't for them.

If people give it a chance and have an opinion that's fine, London bashing without ever experiencing living or spending significant amounts of time there I give no credence to.

;) Top man. Best Pie ‘n’ Mash in South London. Harrington’s in Selkirk Road. The old man (who NEVER swore), swore by it.
There's this place not far from our house and I haven't managed to persuade the wife to visit yet

Manze is a good product but, as a chain, your experience is dependent on who is on duty at the time of your visit. They have more or less replaced a lot of the old family run shops which sometimes had been handed down through the generations and the same folk working there day in day out. I would definitely try to persuade Mrs Bruce to go along though. A kind of euro cuisine cultural exchange. Does she like eels??
