Current Affairs The Conservative Party

Sorry to hear that, they are a disgrace. Absolutely heartless and callous party
I predicted this outcome, but I didn't predict 0 points, which is a slap in the face. I'm going to speak to Citizens Advice and see where it takes me. I will get them to help me with my PIP application, too. I may as well also apply for JSA seeing as I am apparantly fit to work.

It's easy to give up but it's exactly what they want. I'm determined to get every penny off them now, whereas I would have been satisfied with ESA until I am able to work again.

The wording of the application and assessment is horrible. The attitude that they portray is that unless you're in a near vegetative state then you're on your own.

Was aware of his wife's death as is local to me.
But I hope he isn’t using it as a sympathy vote...

Sky article-
“ He also claimed the investigation "undoubtedly played a major role" in his wife, Rose Paterson, taking her own life in June last year.

He said the investigation has been "catastrophic" for him and his three grown-up children and that his wife would ask him "despairingly" every weekend about the inquiry "convinced that the investigation would go to any lengths to somehow find me in the wrong".

Politico article in June this year;

“We had no inkling of this whatever,” Paterson said. “The thing we found very hard to cope with at the time was that she had a parallel, very active life.”

Owen Patterson campaigning for better suicide awareness/prevention is very commendable project, however using his own experience as a way to push back on him being found to have breached Parliamentary code for his own gain would be pretty scummy thing to do!

Been trying to get ESA off the government since May this year. I’ve just had my ‘results’ back. They’ve given me 0 points, so apparently there is nothing wrong with me lol lol. What an insult.

This Christmas will be a depressing one.

Appeal. I used to work for JCP/Citizens Advice Bureau - you'd be amazed (well, you probably wouldn't be, but just a turn of phrase) just how many they reject in the hope they don't appeal. They have rejection quotas they have to meet.

I'm not as familiar with ESA, but with DLA/PIP the norm is you are rejected or lowballed on first application, then on appeal there's a good chance of turning it round, and failing that if you go to tribunal then it's genuinely independent and they'll turn it round if a genuine application. I've read many a scathing award from a tribunal criticising the actions of DWP - it's a genuine disgrace that it still persists, but it's a result of the 'scroungers' mindset politically.

Thought I'd listen to the budget whilst on holiday... mps waffling about national cheese toastie day.

Good job we pay them so we'll to discuss the serious issues

I think Sunak is a future PM.

I mean everything so far is a bunch of waffle and nothing, but he has the right presence and he's likeable. It'll be interesting if he succeeds Johnson because, if he does, Labour would have a big hill to climb to beat him.

Why is the speaker upset the chancellor already announced some of his budget? Are we the public not entitled to know what's in it as much as MP's?

We the public aren’t being told what’s in it either though - all that is being leaked is spin, to friendly hacks who then spread it out.

Those releases aren’t really scrutinised but those hacks either, even by the low level performed on the floor of the Commons.

He is clearly the next cab on the rank, or rather the only other cab given what Johnson’s cabinet is filled with.

I am not sure it would be that difficult to beat him though; if anything he seems to be a shorter and more boring version of Brown and would probably present himself like Brown did too (“a return to normality led by an experienced Chancellor who wasn’t going to do the discredited politics of his predecessor etc etc ad infinitum”). A better Labour leader would probably do well, especially given what state the country is going to be in by then (though obviously Sunak would have the RW rags, which Brown never did).

They already do.

Literally labour MPs in parliment trying to say black slavery is different when challenged with exmaples of all types of slavery over the centuries.

Or attacking the tories for doing things that they themself (Diane Abbott of course) put into place and supported under their own governemnt.

I cant ever bring myself to vote conservative being a local scouser but my god some of them labour MPs are embarasssing.

Yeah but what I meant was if the Tories for some baffling reason put a clown like Therese Coffey or whoever up against Labour then they'd at least have a chance.

At least Tory Government have now moved past the idea that increase of cost of living is nothing to now real and is going to last past Christmas, few weeks ago it was just a storm in a tea cup just teething problems as we moved into let the bodies pile up faze of pandemic.

Beer and fags up again I suppose?
Dear oh dear.
I might be missing something but in this budget we were told leaving the EU has allowed us to change the tax on alcohol, surely this has nothing to do with the EU in or out and its just another lie... Its always been a thing.
And you can buy litre wine or whatever in pints when in france France and such like for for a euro.
They really do think they are chatting to thickies!
