There was a paper I read yesterday about migration in Czech that I feel sums things up here too, as officials know full well that migration is incredibly beneficial to the country, and yet we have this weird environment whereby they have whipped up fear and animosity towards migrants among the people by generation after generation of scapegoating them for all manner of society's ills. So they have to create this superficial veneer of being tough and bastardly while secretly wanting to be welcoming. It's an absurd situation that is completely of their own making.
I know from professional experience that ministerial policies have progressively made the Home Office's job harder for the last 10 years.

My stance on immigration is pretty much in line with Medieval central European thinking though:

"Make the strangers welcome in this land, let them keep their languages and customs, for weak and fragile is the realm which is based on a single language or on a single set of customs."

St. Istvan King of Hungary in a letter to his son St. Emeric (Imre), 1036 A.D.

I'm an advocate of open borders, which is the single best way of stopping people smuggling as they wouldn't need to smuggle anyone.

if people are going to post crap like that at least post the facts also.

It's not an immigration raid, it was a raid on 2 people who are thought to be the behind the biggest network of people smuggling in the uk

Does it matter?

It's terrible either way. Either it's an immigration raid and she looks like an evil monster, or it's crime raid and she's a moronic politician distracting police for a photo op during something very serious.

Terrible? Jesus christ. Who gives a crap if the person in charge of the police is watching themin action

This is all happening so far under the radar that public awareness is almost nonexistent.

Our government is working diligently and systematically to place itself above the law - the public would either shrug collectively or approve.

No one come crying when the Tories take away our right to take the government to court over decisions it makes that directly impact you. Its bad enough as it is to hold anyone in power accountable, example Hillsborough.

Margaret Thatcher once said- Being democratic is not enough, a majority cannot turn what is wrong into right. In order to be considered truly free, countries must also have a deep love of liberty and an abiding respect for the rule of law.”

Indeed this is what happens but hey what with Covid , BBC and the Royals this kind of thing will be served up by Bulingdon and his rancid mob , another example of levelling up eh ?

It’s also the single best way of allowing in criminals, drug suppliers and people trafficking operations for slave labour. It would be wonderful if we didn’t have bad people but unfortunately we do and need certain protections from them....

Well that's just what the UK needs, BoJo the clown being even less accountable than he is now for his horrorshow government

I wish this trope were true Pete, but alas, it is not, as this study from the University of Buffalo aptly shows when they assessed the impact of undocumented migrants on crime in the US

“Even after estimating the undocumented immigrant population in US metropolitan areas in two different ways, we found that undocumented immigrants had no significant effect on violent crime and actually had a significant negative effect on property crime,”
