Just to mix up different threads a bit, this is what annoys me about the COVID deniers, conspiracy type stuff.
There’s often a kernel of truth in there, but it gets overstated, misinterpreted and then pointed at the wrong target.
The government are definitely using COVID to advance their own interests, but it’s unlikely anything to do with mass control, new world orders or bill gates.
It’s much simpler, they saw an opportunity to siphon billions of pounds of tax payer money to their mates and themselves, and are doing so in full public view.

Not only is it a complete waste of critical thought and investigation, but what does it say that 30% of people say they believe that but just sit about as normal, talking gibberish on the internet.

Definitely. The misinformation phenomenon, coupled with a quicker than ever news cycle, means that those in power can simply deny and move on, knowing that the next topic will be centre of attention by the end of the day.
Saw this with Trump, where he told so many lies, knowing that by the time you’ve tried to fact check the first lie, he’s told 5 more lies.

Indeed, and of course the reason why the likes of Q and climate / COVID deniers exist is because they are funded by the people who ultimately support the government (whether ours or the yanks).
They've understand that people are angry - and are almost certainly going to be far more angry over the next decade or so - and so its vital the public blame is directed at anyone other than themselves, the people responsible. After all a divided people are much easier to rule, and if you can get one side so hopelessly compromised by your lies that their guilt forces them to defend you for everything (as we see in the US now) then so much the better.
The distrust of government BS as well, undoubtedly benefits a right wing agenda.
