Do you not think retirement should rise in line with life expectancy?
It probably should but then you have huge discrepancies in life expectancy between affluent and impoverished areas. In addition, wealthier individuals often have the capital and resources to retire early.
So in effect, you are further punishing those less well off

Quite. Plus the natural ageing process that just simply makes full time work in tons of occupations unrealistic. The fact is, if someone in retirement either wants to, or sadly, needs to work, there are loads of opportunities, as a trip to any supermarket or charity shop during the working day would prove. 45 ish years is plenty before being able to put your feet up in my book.

For sure, it's not a situation that benefits from a broadbrush, but there is a tonne of research on the benefits of work to our mental and physical wellbeing, but as a society ageism is pretty rife at work, and it prevents many people who could make a valuable contribution from doing so. Whether it's greater support for flexible working or the various other workplace-based initiatives to help older people remain in work, there needs to be a societal conversation about this. Whether the Tories manage that I kinda suspect they won't, but at least they're not kicking the can down the road and pretending our shifting demographics are not happening.

Nothing to day with mental health and physical wellbeing, you can work into retirement now I've personally known people well into their 70s 10 years 15 years ago doing just that, this conversation happened long ago, however, without exception chose to work well into their retirement.

This about taking away the choice of retirement for the majority by not allowing the state pension until 75... Just as life expectancy is stagnating, just as mass automation robotics becomes the norm, not just factory manual jobs but we'll into traditional middle class jobs. Its a vote winner alrighty...

As always, no trickle down, it's all gushing up and making sure it stays that way.

So where are all these extra jobs coming from Bruce?

But automation isn't destroying jobs? That's a huge misnomer, and the data backs this up. If you also believe that ageism doesn't exist in the workplace then you perhaps need to look harder.

What do you mean 'extra' jobs?

I see Swinsons election has empowered Bruce, he is in full rees-mogg mode here

He has an ISA mate.

I mean if people are staying in jobs for 10 years longer then what do you propose to do for the people who would normally move into those jobs?

Ah, the good old lump of labour fallacy. There are a few billion more people on the planet than a generation ago. Have we had mass unemployment as they all went for the same jobs or were new jobs created?

That's fine, as long as the Tories are going to create all these new jobs then there'll be no problem.....

No data does not back it because there is much data to say it will cost jobs, However, factor in circumstantial evidence, there is a reason more and more employment is in gig economy, not just because life is so very cheap in the UK and everyone is looking for some Bohemian respite.

What on earth are going on about ageism, what has it got to with being forced to take your pension at 75, what is this centre right lobby think tank waffle, politically bankruptcy me thinks.

Just as well there is no starvation every one has health care, every one has a nice roof over their heads, no war everyone is so busy working in gainful employment. Good grief.
