This is a decent explanation of why council funding is in such a mess

Interesting to note the bit about social care costs. The maddest linked about turn is the NI increase introduced then rapidly dropped. Ring-fenced to pay for social care. An actual sensible policy.

I think the unfortunate truth is that good services cost money.

Indeed, the demands upon the public purse continue to grow, but there are always examples where councils shoot themselves in the foot. A minor one, but an irritant nonetheless, is not allowing certain ‘rubbish and waste’, old tins of paint or tyres, to be taken to the local tip or charging for such facilities. The result being fly tipping, which then costs vastly more money to clear and despoils country lanes and areas in towns. I know it’s just a simple example but it’s indicative of what some of them get up to…..

Weird, there is a paint disposal facility at our local tip.

I mean, there will always be something folk get around. Half the fly tipping here is cowboy builders who want to ditch waste on the cheap. Tight buggers.

Yeah, sorting your toxic waste themselves gratis deffo wouldn't add to processing costs.

Same in our local recycling center, however, Local Authority announced they are to bring in entrance fee as yet undisclosed and booking slot for any DIY waste, plaster wall paper bricks paint etc. I know where this will end up. Pretty sure the evidence is people do try and recycle however, get frustrated by service for some reason as most fly tipping typically is with in a mile or so of these centers.

He’s doing Starmers work for him in some respects with that stupid statement that he keeps repeating. Of of course for either party square one is the list on the left hand side and both parties need to tell us how they are going to fix it, and so far neither of them are doing so……
If Labour under Starmer can get us back to square one, he might be the greatest PM we ever had.

Wish I had pals that'd sell me a business for under market value, have pals in banking elsewhere that'd front the cash to buy it, then I could asset strip the company, bankrupt it, and offset some of the monies I'd transferred to another of my businesses against the tax owed by the initial company in its tax jurisdiction (Spain in this case) and wrap the business up with it massively in the red. Everyone goes down with the ship except my director pals. The bank gets their slice of course and the prospect of similar business and profit in future.

How close a model of asset stripping is this case to say that of 'Rover' or 'BHS'?

@peteblue always rely on the mone's to stand on their own two feet eh!?

I suspect we haven't seen the sheer scale of the Tory party corruption. The full extent PPE deals, Covid contracts, HS2 land, Teeside are just the tip of the iceberg!

Someone needs to to some proper digging in to Free Schools, too.
