Totally agree. I've binned old friends off because they're Tories..
This following post could go in the Stupid Mistakes thread: when I was in my early 20s I voted right wing. It took some real life experiences to open my eyes to what was best for the world rather than what was best for me. especially as the Tories just ended up as self serving crook liars anyway. Some of us move on and become better people, I'm glad I worked it out.

I remember from an early age my dad hated Thatcher and the Tories. You tend to follow suit, but then as you get older you work out why. Even now the more they do, the more I hate them. They have not one single empathetic bone in their bodies towards the poor or even middle classes!

Everything they do is about protecting their and their friends interests and money.

They aren't effected by rises in fuel, utility or food prices. They WANT inflation and a rise in interest rates as they make more money! They are swallowing up houses as people fail to pay mortgages. They WILL privatise the NHS because they can afford to pay for private care.

We, the masses are doomed in the future. I really worry for my kids in 20 years time.

We desperately need a proper labour party and leader asap. Corbin was set to lead and probably win. But he went too strong too early with his policies. His re-nationalisation of the utility companies buried himself.. they just couldn't let that happen.

The only one I could see now in the immediate future would be Andy Burnham. But Torylite Starmer wouldn't let that happen..

Its a sad future for the UK.

My parents are both examples of what I think is the saddest (and probably biggest) support for the Tories, in that they both vote for them but are poor and not that well educated, they actually suffer from them being in power, but as long as no cheeky foreigners are allowed on the shores, army vets before refugees and all that tosh, Brexit voters etc, they're into all that rubbish, I just don't understand.

You've just described a lot of builders.

When I came back to the trade around March 2022 I was staggered to witness people who live in social housing arguing the case for private healthcare. One was arguing that £10 for a GP appointment would be a big help. As if it would begin and end there. It was quite sad.

Sickeningly my mum reads the Daily Mail. I constantly refer to that paper and he view points and call her a Tory which she hates, (she votes Labour) but my dad nods agreeingly. My dad is socialist tending! lol

Last election I was working on a huge construction site in the midlands. So obviously a very large spread of people, from those with PHD's and high management, through to the labourers on site. Not looking down on the labourers on site, but there were a LOT of them that said they were voting Tory based on the immigration policy.. Most of these lads were from Stoke. It was just staggering. They were clueless.

I told them, 'you realise you've just f&%$ed yourselves don't you?'... ''how many of your family receive benefits?', 'your wife who's in and out of hospital, can you afford to pay private health care in future?'.. They had no idea what they had voted for, other than 'get them foreigners out of our country'... Unbelievable..

I keep saying it, but my families future is in another country.

£5000 a year for a typical 2 parent 2 child family will be what we pay when the NHS is privatised.

But that isn't the worst of it. Paying for the medicines that cost very little to produce will be the killer. If no private health care, you will end up paying £80 for an asthma inhaler. £100 for an epi pen..

Well this one has 4 kids so he might change his mind if and when it bites.

Seems more a case of when, to me.
