As if you haven't. Someone who follows current affairs as closely as you must be aware that he receives such a high volume that the security services consider credible they view him at the same level of risk as the PM or the King. Even GBeebies and the Mail have reported on it.

I agree he's a bit of a git, but so are most politicians. What makes you suggest he's done something to have earned that?

To have earned what…a death threat, obviously nothing as no one deserves that……

More pollution to rivers comes straight off farmers fields than will ever come from new housing which is desperately needed….
Not the point, total whataboutery. The fact is, there is legislation in place to combat this that makes the house building companies eligible for any costs now, Suinal has transferred on to the tax payer after pressure from big business. The most tory thing ever and an utter disgrace.

Can’t quite work out if you are concerned about river pollution or is it just who pays……

dear god, when were you ever ‘ruled by fear’…fear of what exactly……
You have no comprehension, but typically you've dismissed it because you're a blinkered Tory who yearns for those days to come back.

I've worked in construction all my life at various levels. An industry full of liars, bullies and thieves, the majority of which are over 50 and slowly but surely dying out. They behave that way because they come from an era where it was seen as acceptable to abuse people for your own gain. It was even encouraged. An era where it was legal to beat the proverbial out of your kids becasue you can't/won't parent them properly. They epitomise everything that is wrong with the industry and society as a whole.

Ooops went a bit woke there didn't I lmao.

And what did any of that have to do with the Tories, or did it all miraculously stop during the periods when Labour was in power…….

If we need new homes then something has to give…but as I understand it the current (EU) legislation is being applied so strictly that houses are not being built. You pays your money and takes your choice……..
HAHA, this is the issue! Yours and every other Tory stance is money at all costs, ignore the legistlation put in place to pretect the environment and just bend the rules AND make ther tax payer foot the bill, It is disgusting, mate. These will not be affordable homes, they will be 4-5 bedroom homes built by big business that have lobbied the Tory gov into doing what they say (how long until we hear they have shares/interests in said development companies) and tax payers paying.

Pete, be honest with yourself, it is disgusting

Can only be a good thing

House builders make huge profits. For example, they typically report profits of 10-30%, whereas in main contracting if you're getting 5% you're doing incredibly well. Have you seen how much Kier's directors get in bonuses?

It's laughable that you're defending housing companies, as if they're begging to be given opportunies to build good value homes. These house builders charge more than their product is actually worth (many people sell on for a loss) with quality that is so poor and often unfit for purpose. They do this because the regulation in the industry is poor and they know they can get away with it. Help to Buy was widely considered as Help to Sell in the industry, but of course, you wouldn't know this because you're ill informed.

Let's just think about the huge Levehulme planning applications to build houses across Wirral's countryside, coincidentally applied during the pandemic and when house prices were at their highest. The council can fulfill their quota of new builds by building on brownfield or ex industrial sites, but there's nowhere near as much profit in that, so they've tried to slip a few thousand houses in.

So once again the ability of this country to provide what should be a basic human requirement is left up to whether private companies can turn a big profit or not.

Who regulates these companies, Pete? Who has the power to make changes but never does?

Then the councils should refuse planning permission and only allow affordable homes. At the moment I see 4/5 bed homes going up everywhere and very few/almost none affordable homes….

Yep, and that is because of the home builders exploiting loop holes.
1: If there is a certain number of homes being built a certain percentage have to be affordable. In which case the developer builds them in plots under different terms allowing them to avoid the affordable homes

2: they apply for planning with a percentage of affordable homes then, once planning agreed, they claim poverty and say they cannot afford to build the affordable homes, the council relents and as you point out - 4 and 5 bed homes only are built.

Also, let it be known that there are hundreds of thousands of sites approved for homes to be built but, as the prices have dropped the developers have mothballed them.

Greed, greed and more greed.
