People have finally woken up to the scummy party and their extremist policies, their corruption, and their complete lack of a moral compass.
I'm amazed that 27% are still voting for them tbh. I'd have thought that the LibDems would have made more sway attracting the David Cameron/Nick Clegg types who are broadly free market social liberals who must be appalled by what the Tories have become.
A lot of tories who I worked with refuse to admit they were wrong voting for them. They seem to have this weird obsession to admit that what is happening in the country right now is due to covid and a war, which all occurred in the last 3 years, rather than 13 years of Tory rule.
They’ll continue to vote for them, rather than blame them for where we are now.
They’re a weird bunch.
Most people don’t even know what they’re voting for. Tory areas I’ve lived in, even people who’ve been completely screwed over by their policies will continue to vote for them.

These people think that they're part of the Conservative club despite earning relative peanuts, never realising that the party they vote for implements policies that they don't benefit from. Like children playing dress up.

TBF if anything that proves the uselessness of this culture war nonsense and its backers. When Sunak appears competent his polling goes up; when he puts out stuff like STOP THE BOATS it goes down. For all the habitual nature of the Tory vote, it is hard even for them to understand why spending extra billions on preventing cross-channel migration is resulting in extra cross channel migration.
If the government accepted the Tory-proposed amendment about establishing other safe routes, which would massively reduce numbers being smuggled in the boats, his polling would go way up just because what he would have done would have worked - they'd reduce numbers and save money.
However he might not do that because the people who hate him in that party, the people who led them into this abyss, the people who will stab in in the back the moment they think they can get away with it, would be upset. He should - he needs - to destroy those people politically; use the example Johnson provided with Ken Clarke and Grieve and just bin all of them off. The country would be vastly better run and safer if he did so.
His position is much to perilous for that. He's on the same wicket may was and will be allowed to 'bat on' until the game is fully lost, then the vultures will swoop.
