He’s succeeding on alienating left wing labour voters very well I think. There’s no chance in hell I’m voting labour under his leadership as I don’t want to vote for a anti-immigration, transphobic incompetent bellend who was massively complicit in knifing Corbyn in the back.

Every non voting Labour supporter might as well vote Conservative, its a stark choice between two parties. I know who I'm voting for.

Corbyn did pretty well against May, and had it not been for the DUP would have lost the tories their majority. He got decimated by Johnson because the nations press wanted to frame a woman-beating, bigoted inbred freak as the good guy. Meanwhile a lot of Labour MPs went out of their way to knife a decent man who has consistently been on the right side of history with his voting record in the back
so he lost two elections? I'm not doubting he is a sincere man but I think we can both agree we would rather a labour gvmt than a tory one. Starmer will deliver it, he may not be as left as you would like but do you want more of rishi and this lot, or a centre left labour PM? it's a no brainer.

If he was centre-left I’d be fine with it, but he isn’t. Yeah he’s better than the tories but that’s an immensely low bar.

Is a man who says “Margret Thatcher was right on crime” and then quotes her left wing?

I hate thatcher as much as the next person but if Thatcher said 'brush your teeth it is good for your dental hygiene' would you slate Starmer if he said, I agree with Thatcher you should brush your teeth?

Starmer isn't agreeing with any of Thatchers policies, he is saying that he agrees with the statement; 'The rule of law is the foundation to everything' - as former head of the CPS would you expect anything else? Bear in mind this isn't some mad philosophy that Thatcher herself came up with, the rule of law being a fundamental part of a working democracy predates Thatcher by a long time, she wasn't saying anything new.

Starmer is just playing the game of politics here, he didn't have to reference thatcher, but in front of an audience in Stoke it will probably take votes from the tories and hand it on a plate to Labour

I think that’s a complete false equivalency, and surely referencing her is going to annoy core labour voters from constituencies which she absolutely screwed over.

I’ve voted Labour in every election I’ve been able to vote, those being Corbyn, Brown, and Miliband. I’m very critical of labour in the same way I’m critical of Everton - Because I care about it and want it to be better. However Starmer’s labour has strayed way too far from my own political beliefs for me to feel comfortable with voting for them.

It's not a false equivalency. You can agree with someone on an issue but also think they are a horrible human being, they are not mutually exclusive and like I said what he is agreeing on is something that goes back centuries anyway. I agree it will annoy some voters, he must have weighed up the risk/reward ratio and felt it was worth it, he is playing the game and playing it well in my opinion.

Fair enough mate, stick to your beliefs haven't got an issue with that! Have a nice weekend.

Yeah, I think agreeing to disagree is best here. You too mate, at least we don’t have the potential of Everton spoiling this weekend

I agree with you, but it’s all about getting these bastards out of power. I’d take Tory lite over what we’ve got now.

This makes sense. But quoting her on anything is still going to annoy many labour voters. I also think he should have put the Corbyn issue to rest after removing the whip. What he did a few weeks ago just antagonised many labour voters. I felt it was completely unnecessary.

As it stands, I will vote for Starmer, but im just not quite sure if he's playing a game or if he will be centre right.

Personally I don't have a problem with a labour government which is just marginally left of centre (has to be better than what we have now). My worry is it won't be.

Feels like just kicking the can down the road though as what’s considered centrist politics ends up shifting further right. We’re always following America. Labour are too scared to even talk about Brexit and immigration.
As long as we keep doing this, wouldn’t be surprised to see an even more extreme and hostile right wing government in the U.K.

It does feel like it's progressives who constantly have to make concessions voting wise, slowly losing more ground to the right wing.

The intention to prevent a government as cruel and useless as this tory is absolutely understandable to anyone with any compassion. But, at what point do we say enough? We tried it with Corbyn and reaction from the establishment was to absolutely destroy any chance of change.

This seems be completely different to your very claim. I think you may have made an error.
No, it isn't different at all. Trans isn't a real thing and their delusions are due absolutely no respect. Believe it or not, tightening the border for the purpose of stopping criminal gangs and people trafficking is in fact "anti-immigration" whether or not you have deranged yourself into believing anything anti-immigration and white supreeeeemist raaaycisss naaahtzzeeee are the same thing.

No one ever says the right need to become more centrist to win votes. The left has been crushed in the U.K.

If anyone from either side of the political divide thinks this is a good thing, then they’re a fool.

They don't say that because the right keeps winning the elections mate. You're correct that it's not a good thing, but that's the obvious reason noone makes that point in particular.
