Footy focus pulled - the British broadcasting conservatives management really haven’t read the room at all have they.

Real shame the pundits & commentators aren’t just all cowering civil servants who do as they are told/bullied.

Cancel the license fee peeps, not fit for purpose.
Did worry this would create an opportunity for another because im sure many a Tory was salivating at prospect of an Ian Wright or Alex Scott stepping into Linekers shoes. Has restored some hope this country is now waking up what Brexit was all about, xenophobia...

Indeed and Lineker wasn't comparing the UK government to Nazi Germany, he was saying how the language being used by politicians about immigrants is similar to language being used by German politicians in the 30's, which prepared the ground for the rise of the Nazi's. Lineker is entirely correct to point it out. I guess the lesson learnt from 1930s Gemany is not enough did.

100% this.

Braverman is the one that has brought up the Holocaust to try and vilify Lineker for correctly calling out the inhumane and callous acts of this government.

I hope fans up and down the country sing
Oh Gary Gary Gary. Gary Gary Gary Gary Lineker today.

The BBC is a national treasure that's been tainted by some very suspect appointments at the top.

I'm concerned that this issue leads to a boost in the objectives of those who'd want the BBC scrapped... Leading to what the Tories want all along

They don't want it gone they just wanted to control it and push a political ideology. Shame on the BBC for letting it happen, the writting has been on wall when Matlis and other walked.

Yes, you are correct. But the reality is the current BBC is not fit for purpose - and there is no rationale for a license fee if the BBC is going to behave just like Sky or some other private right-wing organ. So, the choice is to root out the Tory cuckoos who are destroying it from within, or get rid of the license fee. Nobody should shed a tear for the current BBC - run by Tories for Tories.

The BBC many of us fondly remember is long dead.

The reality right now is that Sky News has been far more impartial and rigorous than the BBC over Brexit and, indeed, this very issue. Even Sky Sports News has done a superb job.

Its not even about whether you agree with Linekers opinions (sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t FWIW).

Its about his right as a non-news/politics broadcaster to be able to give his opinion. People outside of politics should be allowed to give opinion on news and politics whether we agree with them or not, and not be cancelled.

If he was a political reporter then clearly he could not make those comments as a bbc employee. But he talks about football in his role. So as long as he doesnt make political points during sports broadcasts then his personal views are not relevant.

This is basically the problem with all sides of the free speech debate. People are allowed to disagree on issues. Its healthy for a debate and it doesn't make the person you disagree with a bad person.

When the Beeb allowed itself to be effectively bought out by the Tories and put Tory supporters in key executive positions the writing was on the wall for it - it had been dead for a while, this episode and the bowing to right wing rhetoric by the organisation is the final nail.

I don’t think they saw the depth of feeling amongst Linekers colleagues however, which is making this much worse for the BBC and the Tories than they thought, and hopefully effectively highlighting how out of touch this government and the tories are with the people of this nation.

That’s what you get from governing in a echo chamber, with no honest self analysis of your policy or behaviours, and allowing your moral core to be usurped by the bnp/fascist/far right so much so that the tories are effectively ukip in all but name.

The immigration, racism and culture wars is the only play they have left (it’s the least of our issues ffs) but I fear many of the flag shagging gobshites across the countey will still vote for this abhorrent party at the polling stations - hope i am wrong.
