Don’t confuse the government with the individual. In this case the individual should be got rid of……

….he’s Chairman of the party & not so long ago he was Chancellor. Ffs, he’s a key member of this Government & is just the latest in a list of ‘individuals’ demonstrating they are not fit for high office.

Politics has never been so low.

Great read, if you want to know how utterly corrupt they are.

He was the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he denied this story.

Amazing how many news outlets decided that it was unworthy of coverage.

Margaret Hodge as part of her role as cross party chair on corruption wrote to him when he was chancellor back in July... A sense of how corrupt the country is now when this can be silenced for months.

The thing is, if you are truly looking to create a preventative service rather than a reactive one, then you're going to need a whole bunch of stakeholders that aren't the NHS. While undoubtedly some of those will be rotters, the fact that any outside stakeholders instantly invoke a fit from those on the left doesn't help matters.
And are the railways more efficient and cost-effective because we franchised it into lots of privately run parcels?

TBF how the railways were privatized is more important than the fact it was privatized.

A privately owned railway network would probably be more efficient and cost-effective than a state-run one would be, certainly one in the hands of this government.

I'm not sure you quite understand. Right now I engage with a wide range of services to try and keep myself healthy, which generates a large amount of data. None of that is provided by the NHS and I would estimate less than 1% of the data about my health is included in my official medical record.

It's about having a grown up conversation. No one expects the NHS to develop smart watches to track our activity levels, yet wouldn't it be sensible if that data was available to your GP if you're grappling with diabetes or high cholesterol? There are a whole bunch of non-NHS entities involved in trying to keep us well and healthy, and that's okay, but right now none of them really work together with the entity that only gets involved when we're not well.

Do I really believe that the NHS can do everything when it's struggling to do what we currently ask of it? I do not. Equally, I have zero confidence in the NHS really moving beyond constant crisis management precisely because the government runs it and because it's a huge political football where every toy plane enthusiast thinks they know what they're talking about.

Have you seen the Doctolib app (in France)? It is basically quite a bit of that - patient wants a chiropodist (for example), goes to the app, it shows them nearby providers who are available, patient books the appointment via the app and gets seen. Its fantastic.

Aye, it's possible, but you sense at the moment that people want Apple to run the App Store (to use an analogy) and develop every single app on it or it's akin to peeing on the grave of Nye Bevan.

For me, the most important aspects of the NHS should be that it's a) free at the point of care, and b) that it all works well together. We already have GPs that are ostensibly private businesses commissioned by the NHS and people don't get wound up by that basic fact. Do we want a well functioning health system or one in which the government provides everything itself? I'm not sure we can have both.
