Do floating voters attend conferences? The great number of folk who not only see the cruelty of the tories but call them out on and still find the mental gymnastics to vote for them astonishes me. I have to admit given the new levels of cruelty of the right wing I have lost all patience with such people, I used to defend their character as decent people but voting for this conservative party sees you as cruel, selfish and bigoted or just plane ignorant and conditioned. No more middle ground can be offered to them, the consequences are too great.

Absolutely right.

It’s a different level. Could happily have a reasoned argument with someone who believes in say neo-liberalism or basic tory principles but that is no longer the case. How anyone can remotely support what is happening now is beyond me.

I think what Bruce is saying there is that while this particular Tory may have a very high sense of party loyalty, there are probably a lot of voters like him who generally vote Tory without that strong sense of loyalty. Labour probably isn't winning his vote (if he wanted to register his displeasure he probably votes Lib Dem), but they need to win the votes of Tory voters like him.

I think he's been public with this, but I recall Roydo voting Tory. I personally wouldn't label him, or indeed Tree13, as horrors. The more there is a way out for those people the more likely this awful government will be out of office for a really long time.

I'm a party member and I personally voted for Starmer based on this very principle, I'm talking more in my personal life about losing patience with those who perform mental gymnastics to repeatedly vote tory, having witnessed too many times the pain of the last 12 years of government. I realise these votes are still important and also that it is never too late to admit to a mistake and be forgiven.

Yeah, I did at the last one. It was purely to get the Brexit stuff sorted, cos the HOC was constipated. I disagreed with leaving, but that race was run. Simply put, we had to move forward, as much as I hated it.
Remember, that was pre covid, pre Ukraine, and Nikki was alive and not even poorly. The absolute definition of "different days".
