I am a little not knowledgable when it comes to politics but try to keep up to date with general news as it does affect us in one way or another but this recent story has confused me as nobody has explicitly said it. Could someone answer this for me?
Is the recent tanking of the UK economy partly at least down to the new conservative government offering a tax cut to the richest and it backfired big time?

partly, that they have had to borrow money to prop up household bills is another part, but the venom in the deal was the borrowing of monies to fund the tax cut for the richest in society - specifically only the richest. put a few people off that, and it proved sunak completely right which also stuck in the craw of a few that voted the white girl in based on her perceived values and promises. to internationals it showed the leadership here were/are drunk at the wheel and so confidence in shrewd policy evaporated leading to the pounds value suffering. as some muffin on the bbc said earlier, they had the warnings about it and ignored everyone else, now they had to u turn not only do they look incompetent they now also look weak.
Nothing is guaranteed unfortunately
Problem is a lot of people vote Tory but never admit to it

My view, for what it is worth, is that leaving behind a tariff free potential market of some 450 million customers, in the hope of maintaining the same level of exports, and the same quality of imports with other countries, was perhaps a mistake. Electing very strange PMs has not helped.

The Tories will drag it out and hope Labour finds a way to screw it up. That would be hard, though. All Starmer has to do is play patient defense, and he seems quite good at that.
The smart move right now is probably to toss Truss under the bus, which is what the papers seem to be trying to do. The party can't pull her without calling a general for a year, but they can put enough pressure on her to force her to step down.
Proper house divided, they are right now. Reminds me a bit of what happened to the Republicans in the House post-Gingrich. Tamping down everyone who wasn't on-message worked for a while, but ultimately the fissures exploded into view and we eventually ended up with the Freedom Caucus.
It's what eventually happens when you let someone like Newt or Boris run the show.
Unbelievably yes he is. Never like doing the ‘imagine if…’ kinda stuff as it’s generally a false equivalence but if it was young ladies he was groping he’d be out of a job. Seen as more funny and less important because it was men.

Long gone past the idea of so called "bashful Tory". Just people that lie about their politics and have learnt not say (type) key words that give them away Perfidious Albion, is the name of the game.I
As for what remains of UK Conservatism politics, this thread and caution if you are anything from one nation Conservative/ fiscal one right through the centre to the left, it will enrage this is where the party is at "Libertarian" .
