Well yeah, of course, same with Sunak. However, to be fair, however much of a cockwomble he is, he is quite distant from the current farce even though he was instrumental regarding its genesis.

I'd argue though that the experts that are being used for this were the same ones that drove the Brexit campaign. They should have been binned then but instead were acted on and emboldened. The two situations are directly linked because the same architects are behind them both (and those aren't the bellends fronting it in Westminster). He knew what he was doing but thought these knobheads would ruffle feathers in Whitehall and allow him to shake up the civil service.

Some truth to that imo, but I think the underhand garbage of Tufton St were an instrument that have now become the conductor.

You can tackle those issues without appearing weak on the national stage.

Problem for the West is we cant do anything thats seen "provocative" these days without the far left making a massive deal of it domestically.

Look at the US visit to Taiwan recently - getting blamed by the Left over a harmless state visit because tyrant CCP got butt hurt about it "dont anger China or hurt their feelings lads" when instead the left should be looking at China's horrendous human rights record and not appeasing their imperialist behaviour.

Do you think criticism of China's horrendous human rights record doesn't come from left leaning groups or individuals? Or do you somehow think the left is the predominant force behind any defence over China's human rights record?

I've seen those kind of rebuttals trotted out by those with economic interests in China or other states with similar records but I'm not sure there's much of a Venn Diagram overlap with those groups and left wing groups.
