You can see the ideology, low tax, low regulation. The Institute of Economic Affairs Libertarian view on how to run a country. They’ve been lobbying for years for this type of approach, and have finally got the MPs in place to do it.

The questions that remain are, will it actually create growth, in order to fund public services?

Do they even want to fund public services?

If it doesn’t create the expected growth, what then? What will be cut in order to pay for all this?

If it really is a Libertarian approach, the aim will be reduce the state to the bare minimum and get everything privatised. Is this what a majority of the county want?

I would say no but they have been hoodwinked into voting for it. And will continue to be so I fear. Then when it finally dawns on the simpletons it’ll all be too late.

You might be right.

I think at the least, the old argument of people saying “they’re all the same, there’s no difference between the parties, so I ain’t voting” has gone.

There’s now a huge difference between the 2 ideologically, even if you view Starmer’s labour as Centre Left. The difference between Libertarian economics and Brownian, Centre left economics is massive.

I think that argument went out the window when Corbyn was an option. Probably the only chance we had at a truly different path. The public resoundingly rejected this in favour of Johnson and his cronies. Now here we are.

So all of this is the fault of a movement of people who wanted a more socially equal and fair society. What a take
Momentum seemed to be of the opinion that all they needed to succeed was to appeal to their core voters. The reality is that they need to appeal to those who perhaps supported Cameron in the past and are turned off by the direction the Tories have gone in since Brexit. Instead of that happening not only did those people still believe backing Johnson was better than going with Corbyn, but also a lot of Labour voters jumped ship as well because of him.

When the opposition go extreme you don't win elections by fighting it from an equally extreme position.

So this current mess is Corbyns fault for not being able to breakthrough to the serfs of the land? It’s also his fault we are governed by corrupt despots he’ll bent on turning us into a banana republic.

People like you will still be blaming Corbyn in 10 years time. Your posts in the rail strikes thread confirm your true identity.

Given that the role of an opposition is to defeat the incumbent, then yes, he takes responsibility for Labour being not only unable to do that but for the Tories gaining a huge majority in 2019. I very much hope Starmer does better in two years time.

Regarding your last remark. Yes, they confirm me as someone with a passing grasp of economics, which by not backing the strikes either, it appears the Labour leadership also have.

As I regularly point out here for context, I am a trained economist. All I will say about this new British government is: can you imagine what the reaction would be if it was a Labour government crashing the pound like this?

The UK is circling the drain at the moment. People really have no excuse at the next election. These arsonists have to be ejected.
