Thing is, putting the whole Brexit thing to one side, I can see why Johnson appealed to folk. Even his mate, @peteblue agreed that he is a great salesman. And he was. But he couldnt avoid his character flaws. In sales speak, he could sell the sizzle, but not the sausage.

He'd be awful because he'd have to go from representing the interests of a very small group of people to that of the entire country. He's good at extracting rent for his members. Nothing more.

He is an excellent orator who has a true gift of being able to connect with people using wit, plain speaking, an eye for detail and honesty. All of which are sadly lacking in politics today. I can see why he probably wouldn't appeal to the right though.

With Johnson’s professional record, only a complete halfwit would get sucked into his waffle. But I do believe that covers at least half of the U.K. population.

If he tried to sell me anything I’d see through his bollocks in a heartbeat.

Enough people believed his waffle. Maybe a dose of conformation bias, who knows? But good salesmen appeal to that. His character flaws bought him down, in the main.

I think she will surprise people. Like you I thought she was a lightweight and a poor communicator. But people who actually know her and countries who have worked with her seem to give a positive response. Time will tell of course, I still believe the conservative elite have just shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of Boris, but hey ho it is what it is….
