We should have maintained a core manufacturing capability within the country. Especially for strategically important products. e.g. we should have been able to produce medical equipment and ppe during covid.

We should have been encouraging high tech, innovation led manufacturing industry as well.

I agree that we're in for a dark future.

We produce an awful lot of things Joe. We're a services economy and are exceptionally good in areas like finance, pharmaceuticals, higher education, law, accounting, the arts, and so on. ARM is a good example of the transition, as they're the world leader in designing microchips, but we don't have any company that manufactures them.
