I go round and round in circles with this. Professionally, similarly to your other half, I fairly frequently come across families and individuals whose behaviours and choices start making me think some people shouldn't be allowed to have children.

The thing is though, regardless of the circumstances those children find themselves in, it is not their fault. The adults involved have often massively failed to live up to their responsibilities. If we (as in society) dont step in to try to improve those children's circumstances, the outcomes for the majority of those children are likely to be such that they cost society more in the long run and maybe even perpetuate the problem into future generations. Additionally, what does it say about our society if we don't do anything.

So yes, some adults shouldn't be allowed to have kids (where that line is drawn and who makes the judgement is a whole other can of worms) but that isn't the kids' fault and it therefore follows that society has to act to help those children - hence FSM etc.

Sure Start Nurseries were aimed directly at this - so children would not be neglected and parents needing help would get it. Very sadly, with Lib Dem support, they were one of the first things Cameron slaughtered in the name of "austerity" - in truth tbe small state which the present shower of sh1t are promoting. A false economy which is failing a generation.

My impression is that he lets the civil servants get on with stuff and he doesn't get too much in the way. Probably good advice for politicians regardless of party.

I don't actually know the first thing about him tbh, nor his economic philosophy, but Braverman has come out with some horrendous comments over the years so for her to be in an actual position of power is terrifying.

My feelings entirely, although Kwarteng is another of the "Britannia Unhinged" lot.

I honestly never thought I'd wish for Patel to stay as Home Secretary.

The Home Office needs breaking up anyway. It's completely dysfunctional.
