I do worry that the Tories will call a snap general election on the back of Truss winning to try and sneak a win on that new leader bounce before the whole economic mess hits the fan.

They'll play every dog whistle trick in the book and no doubt get Boris out and campaigning on the back of a promise or a future job. Likes of Truss knows her limitations and will happily bank a short spell as PM.

I don't know the state of each party's finances though which is key
I don't think you need to worry too much mate, the Cons have managed to balls up pretty much every major decision that affects the country wherever you might care to look.

Look at the last 12 years and can you think of even one thing that they clearly got right? anything?

You know things are REALLY bad when even other countries are complaining about how bad things are over here. (Thinking France and our raw sewage here)

Keep smiling, it'll all come out in the wash..................hopefully.

Could be a good ploy I guess. Also would make Truss look stronger if she said something along the lines of ‘the U.K. people should decide the PM’ Would probably win as well but on a reduced majority.

All you do is save up problems for future generations too. Health, educational outcomes, development, future job prospects etc.

Shouldn't even be an issue in a so called rich country. Well, the general underfunding of education as well.
Really winds me up this.

They cut back on food for children, and yet they force the parents of those very same children to fund MP's heating and eating via taxation.

Why is there always numerous idiots in the replies saying they ate nothing as a child and turned out fine. Do people actively aim for a horrendous standard of living?

Absolutely disgusting isnt it. They obviously havent turned out fine if thats the stance they are taking.

Same with the 'parents responsibility', 'dont have kids if you cant look after them' shouts. Awful way of viewing things. Society is broken and its heartbreaking

My other half works with families with young children, and will tell you that the majority who are currently in poverty were in poverty before they decided to have children (or indeed more children). The number of people who were doing okay and then misfortune befell them is pretty small. Heck, we've got several people in our family who were in a bad situation and still felt fit to have a child/children and then complain about how hard it is. It's not the state's responsibility to raise "your" children.

Why?

Look at the things that are looked for when you're adopting a child. They include a sufficient income, a stable relationship, a room for the child. Again, my missus works with families across London, and you'd be amazed how many don't have any of those, and decide to have more children. Heck, they even say that you can't adopt if you smoke, yet again, my missus works with numerous families who do a darn sight more than just smoke around their kid/s, including several who took all sorts of drugs while pregnant, leaving their children physically and/or mentally disabled as a result.

When does personal responsibility for creating a life kick in?

It's always the people who are anti immigration too. Imagine the average age of the population if they got their way. Hardly any immigration and low birth rates. Recipe for disaster.

The country is definitely in a decline and the Tory party support is cheering it on. At times I'm sure they want to return to the Victorian era - low wages, no human rights etc.

Hardly anyone would have children if everyone waited for an ideal time financially. A large percentage of the country are living month to month and have been for years. For them there may never be an ideal time to have children.
