The case for Silva

The case for him is that we can't keep sacking managers financially and also because we will never build anything if we keep changing coach. On the other hand he should be doing much much better with what we have now, his team lacks the basics and a lot of spirit so I am not confident he will be any better with better players. In fact, I don't see where the next point is coming from and that's a shocking inditement of his coaching.

The first, second and third choices for the next manager turn the job down saying 'I'm doing well at my current club and would need time in order to turn that team around. You've not given the last guy even a full season, so why would I think you'd give me even that?'

The fourth choice manager says he'll take the job on but looks at the squad and says 'Him, him, him and him, won't work, I need him, him, him and him and if possible him and him too. If we're lucky getting rid of some of the deadwood it shouldn't cost more than a hundred million, maybe hundred fifty million tops.'

The fifth choice manager says the same only he thinks it will cost 200m. '

Finally the 6th choice, who doesn't really fit the bill and has some big question marks attached to him accepts the job and the reduced budgets for the next few years whilst the stadium is built and the costs of sacking 4 managers in almost as many years are paid for out of the player acquisition budgets...

That probably makes sense in your head, is that how it works? Im hoping Brands is contacting representatives of the biggest name managers in the world asking if there would be any interest. If the project is sold right Im sure there would be some interest. FWIW I don`t think Bielsa would be a bad choice! Didnt know much about him before but his thorough planning appeals to me, I want a a manager to eat, sleep and breath Everton to get us results.

But the remit has to always be, getting results.

I can. It's in response to;

My point is Everton weren't performing above expectations before the derby. We had a decent home record against the leagues bottom clubs. We beat the likes of Fulham, Brighton and Cardiff at home. I stress this point by highlighting the fixture/results list.

I made the opposite case for Koeman when fans wanted Koeman sacked a month into the season here;

Fair enough, but would you have expected us to be in 6th at the start of December?

I just don't like the narrative that we weren't good in autumn that has come about recently. We were good - we were playing attacking, positive football and looking sharp and confident.

Since that derby defeat - bar odd spells in games and one good performance v Burnley - it's been the opposite.

Martinez, a gamble under BK.
Koeman, employed because he got 6th and 7th at Soton.
Allardyce, as a fireman - short term appointment.

I just don’t understand why Silva was employed and the boss was so keen on him based on Silva had no track records, at all.

You keep pedalling this, but he's a more decorated managed than three of his four predecessors.

Also, we didn't concede from a set=p

I agree he started well but doesn't that shock you that he can't turn around a bad run either here or at his previous two English clubs?! He has talent as a coach but the job is too big for him currently.

All our best players were bought in the last window so his recruitment is good which puts him ahead of Martinez/Koeman/Allardyce.

Our attacking play and open play defence stats were very good before Pickfordgate

He at least recognises there are problems and seems to be willing to change the undroppables in the team.

Davies Kenny Keane Calvert Lewin Lookman Siggurdson have improved their game from last season (although whether the level is good enough is another question)

That’s about all I have so far but after last season I suppose you can say it’s been marginal improvement. If he finishes strongly and consolidates top half then a good window over the summer we could be ready to put in a proper go at the top 6 next season.

I think they are Brands signings with the exception of Richarlison who hits the floor way too often. The guy needs to get a grip! You can read about Brands negotiations with Barca on the net. CBA to find them!

I'm not suggesting that he can do that mate. It's a worry. And i've said numerous times if he went I'd be very meh about it but more frustrated that we'd be back to square one - again!

I've also said all along that it can't be all on the manager anymore because a lot of the players simply aren't good enough. I reckon there's 10/11, including the kids, that I would be happy with being here after the summer. Five of them - arguably six - came in under Silva.

When that keeper has spent his entire career shipping goals, with different players in front of him, and with different managers and set ups, I think you have to conclude it might be him that's absolute rubbish.

I agree but we will find out if and when the team gets better. But seems perfectly good in an England shirt.........

The manager and DoF identified the targets they wanted to go and get.

Brands leads the negotiations / sets the price etc. Ultimately moving forward the DoF will be responsible - in conjunction with the manager(s) - in setting a playing style that certain players fit into.

It's not rocket science.

We are a famous football club with a rich history of winning honours.

We have an owner now prepared to invest to see further honours and progress.

You only want to sack an underperfoming manager if he has a bad attitude (like a red christmas tree?) or is disrespectful.

Forgive me but this is the apathetic attitude that has held us in the doldrums for 25 years.

Our motto meant something once. We should be striving for excellence. Be winners. Let the young evertonians taste the incredible buzz that we glowed in in the 80's.

To have that you need to be ruthless with managers and players. Its not like they will be lining up at the food bank.

Completely agree, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum. No more gambles!

Which, we have to remember, was most likely not the target this year anyway.

Yeh, we'd all have loved it, but realistically, if the club has a plan, it could be 2-3 seasons in before we want to be seriously challenging top 6. Not 1-2.

I'm just playing Devils' advocate. I don't get why people can't realise that saying Silva's actually done some decent stuff amounts to the same as wanting him to sign a 5 yr deal.

It’s not his fault that the team goes caput after one dreadful error from your keeper. It is his fault that we haven’t fixed the glaring issues since then. I feel like a broken record at this point, but 90 percent of the issues stem from the inferiority complex that exists at Everton FC.

It’s gotten to the point that I’m not sure any manager would solve it. We don’t have a world class side by any means, but it is much better than some give us credit for. We should be performing much better.
