I am reasonably sure the headline stuff like a trade deal will get sorted; everyone benefits.

The thing I have an issue with is all the small stuff, the detail if you like, about cooperation on research, EU funding on stuff that the UK might bin and most folk havnt a clue about, (like me), data, security, god only knows what else.

Like will the regions in the UK that have received EU funding, or others that were due some, still get it? Or will any funding be replaced by the UK? Its one to ponder for folk more aware of stuff like this. Cos I frankly, dont have a clue.

Hopefully some winners in this will illuminate my concerns. Cos they knew exactly what they were voting for, so they say.

The forecasts would suggest nobody benefits, but rather people are placed at a less detriment dependung upon the type of deal achieved.

I meant both negotiating parties benefit. I will wait and see what the impact on you and me will be.

Magic 8 ball says "Try again later"

  • Dyson's allocated to every household
  • Fish and chips wrapped in toxic ink newspaper
  • A billion new laws that we made that are a billion times better than the laws we previously made
  • NHS will be so rich, every patient gets a golden toilet to crap in

Oh, are we serious? Here's one actual benefit:
  • The closet-racists will be out in the open from now on, rather than "I'm not racist, but-". Spotting wronguns will be easier than before.

I was watching a programme about wildlife the other day and it says that farmers are now getting paid to protect wildlife instead of using their land for agriculture, which is what the EU pays for. There was one place in the lakes that had re-created a river and as a result hadn't suffered any further flooding.

So that's one I suppose....

Oh not yet, it's not. We left on 31 January. Transitional provisions apply EU rules until the end of this year at the earliest.

Now, what does the common agricultural policy do?

"Aims of the common agricultural policy
Launched in 1962, the EU’s common agricultural policy (CAP) is a partnership between agriculture and society, and between Europe and its farmers. It aims to
  • support farmers and improve agricultural productivity, ensuring a stable supply of affordable food
  • safeguard European Union farmers to make a reasonable living
  • help tackle climate change and the sustainable management of natural resources
  • maintain rural areas and landscapes across the EU
  • keep the rural economy alive by promoting jobs in farming, agri-foods industries and associated sectors
The CAP is a common policy for all EU countries. It is managed and funded at European level from the resources of the EU’s budget.

...
Environmentally sustainable farming
  • farmers have a double challenge – to produce food whilst simultaneously protecting nature and safeguarding biodiversity. Using natural resources prudently is essential for our food production and for our quality of life – today, tomorrow and for future generations"

I really do hope that future UK agricultural subsidies will focus on protecting the environment - rather than paying to import big machinery and rip up hedges, which we don't need. But the CAP is getting there too.
