The Ashes 2025

No 1 problem with the current batting style is that the bowlers don't get rest. It's not realistic to expect bowlers to bowl consistently well in the second bowling innings, if they are bowling again within a few hours and on every day of test matches. I would imagine the data also shows it increases the risk of injuries.

I'm not sure that's an issue when the Aussies batted for less than 75 overs. Atkinson bowled the most overs, with 21. That's about a normal workload for a single innings of a test match, let alone two. I do get what you mean, but when the match is over in 2 days, you can't complain about fatigue.

As an example. This year, Gus Atkinson has played 3 tests, and averaged 15 overs per "match". Last year was more, but even then, he was averaging 14 overs per innings. Carse is even worse. Both this year and last, he's bowled around 160 overs across the entire year.

Curtly Ambrose used to average 40+ overs per match. One year, Allan Donald averaged 38 overs per match over 14 matches. We can't just say that swing bowlers in the past used to bowl more. Genuine quicks did a lot more.

So, Oz win the first test on the second day by 8 wickets?!

Bloody ripper, mate! That's what's otherwise known as a good ol' fashioned buggering!
Only another 4 more tests to go, England! 🤣

Looks like The Ashes are staying down under this time...

Lol... 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, now all the fuss has died down can somebody explain exactly what Bazball is
From what I can see, based on 3 and a bit innings is 2 things
1) with Bazball you are OK to bat like it's a T20 / Exhibition match
2) All your bowlers run out of puff on day 2.

It is exactly that, mate.

That approach was lauded for about 2 seconds, now it just looks completely asinine to approach a test match that way... 🙄
Especially when it backfires on you.

Imagine if the england football team, every single player, including the goalkeeper, just decided to shoot the second they got the ball no matter where they were on the pitch. And refuse to change this approach no matter what. You might score some amazing goals 1 match in 10 and win a few games. But you'll lose the others and look like clowns. And make your fans very very angry.
