I had great success of seeing the left hand batsmans stumps, and pitched outsode off stump and moved it back in off the seam usually hitting the stumps , my old coach drummed that into me if I boweled to a left handed over the wicket- he would have dropped me!
I played fo the 5 year team when I was in the 2nd year at school - loved the game !
It annoys me to see so called professionals dropping a clanger not bowling around the wicket to a left hander!
everything wrong with british coaching right there, 'do what i say, think for yourself and your dropped'

He was spot on though played for a local team - I could see his logic and with training he gave me the cockiness to scare the left handed batsman as a right handed person-the advantage you have is LBW and the site of the wickets!
He was a great coach - I should have joined my local cricket team at aged 17 leaving school instead of trying to play football the game I was only average at !
Also liked watching the blues!

No problem with bowlers changing things up, but I think your coach was completely wrong in all honesty

It served me well for the reasons given it's illogical to stay through the wicket when all you see are the batsmans pads and if you get an lbw it has to be a ball in a million!
If you could swing it both ways it shouldn't have been a problem. If you'd have just bowled over the wicket to the leftys you'd have played for England mate. :coffee:

LBW's over the wicket to left handers aren't exactly rare either
They are as you are pitching the ball inside the line of the stumps and can move the ball with more variation inswingers or the one that nips away!
How often do you see a bowler bowl around the wicket to a right hander?
If he does seldom gets an LBW!
It's just basic common sense a slip catch is your only hope and the batsman would have to be poor!

Rubbish the balls we used were well worn swung immediately if the air was humid they were unplayable aged 40 I took 5 for 6 in 4 overs in a 8 bowl evening league cricket game got asked to sign for the team all day Saturday ducked it as of the time consuming practiced in the nets with the first team lads enjoyed it immensely!
