he is poor against swing though, but his concentration when there isn't movement is terrific, the ability to cash in when is suits you is still a great skill and will win australia games and boost his average, the only shouts I take umbrage with are the second best of all time ones, he's nowhere near and I don't care what the average says

I was ''reminiscing' with a few old Australians in a bar in Brisbane earlier today, while watching the game, and the 'greatest' Australian batting performance I've seen in England was Boon and Border in 1993 at Headingley. They were majestic, didn't try and slug just place the ball around the ground. Brilliant.

Completely agree, the likes of Tendulkar and Lara for example had much better bowling to contend with for starters. Most attacks had some of the best of all time in them compared to the tripe throwing the ball down these days.

As a left hand bat I used to love when the right arm bowler came round the wicket at me. Used to always slice it to point/gully or nick off when they bowled it across me.
I had great success of seeing the left hand batsmans stumps, and pitched outsode off stump and moved it back in off the seam usually hitting the stumps , my old coach drummed that into me if I boweled to a left handed over the wicket- he would have dropped me!
I played fo the 5 year team when I was in the 2nd year at school - loved the game !
It annoys me to see so called professionals dropping a clanger not bowling around the wicket to a left hander!

Left hander here as well joe, and much preferred the ball coming at me from around the wicket. Even for shorter pitch bowling it's a lot easier to hit on the onside than having to hit through the line basically. Just my opinion though mate.

Good job you never faced me in my prime then as I licked my lips when a left hander came to the crease!lol
Bowled around the wicket at 6ft 1 tall not a quickie but swung, and seamed the ball either way - took them out easily I played evening league cricket 8 ball 4 overs 20 years ago - I opened the bowling not a weekend player this left hander came out - my captain warned me he was an established player at the weekend league first ball he hammered me for 4 - captain came over - I warned you 2nd ball his stumps were on the deck and he was on his way back to the pavillion!
the old inswinger and seam had fooled him!
I looked at my Captain in disdain - no problem!
at school I practiced just hitting and bowling at one stump! took it out most times!
A great practice session for any young bowler today;)

one man team these aussies. Other batsmen have got scores, but they've always needed smith to be there too to help them make the score. He's no doubt good and probably the second best best in the world behind kohli, i do prefer williamson though. But it's plainly obvious that the main reason a player of his calibre has such a good average is because of the lack of good bowlers in world cricket atm. Anderson and Broad in their prime would have caused him a lot of trouble imo.
