As well as tracking the millions of knives (for what purpose?), mp's also extended the offensive weapons to include saw blades, axes, and lots of other every-day objects, no? Also, why not start with fire-arms?
I wouldn't be surprised to find out his only justification was a connection with a gps company.

exactly, there is one of those knife amnesty things on here in sussex at the moment and i saw a picture (posted on FB by the Police) of a stash of weapons taken from a local person who had hiring weapons out to people. There was like 20+ knifes, proper massive batons, a machine gun! and a couple of swords. That stuff was already outthere, how are they going to tag that?
You're probably overstating either his competency to formulate a plan here. I suspect he's merely another person who lives in the clouds rather than reality.

Anybody else see that London gang sketch on comic relief last night.? Two black gangs, complete with face masks and high rise tenement's in the background, aggressively arguing in that identifiable south London gang drawl, over which gang had done more for comic relief. Apart from not being in the slightest bit funny I thought it was a bit insensitive to what's going on with knife crime at the moment.

In one of the papers today there was an item about how this would work - "the police raided an address in London where there were a large number of knives, only to find out that the Queen was giving a banquet to the Premier of China".
