I’m sure we’ll all be surprised that this right wing loving pos is doing nothing to quell this line of anti-trans sentiment. I would prefer not to mention him but him boosting this is so incredibly dangerous. One of the shooters mentioned in this tweet tried to use gender identity as a defence when having shown no signs of being trans or non binary before. And even if they were all trans (4 people!), what about the hundreds/thousands of other mass shootings over this time period. We all know what was used in all of these shootings. It wasn’t a trans person, it was a f***ing gun. Thoughts and prayers won’t help, demonising LGBTQ people won’t help, calling people of colour terrorists won’t help. Banning guns (at least some of them ffs) will.Going to be an awful lot of anti-trans sentiment in the coming days, not that there was any shortage of it before
I think part of the problem with the debate on guns in America is that the solution is framed (typically by utterly unlikeable up their own arse California yuppies) as a "ban" on guns.
Think California has tighter gun restrictions that most of the States.I think part of the problem with the debate on guns in America is that the solution is framed (typically by utterly unlikeable up their own arse California yuppies) as a "ban" on guns. We don't have a "ban" on guns in this country, you just need to go through some pretty reasonable checks and have a justification for why you need to own the gun, as well as proving you can store it in a secure place. As we can see, that has been sufficient in Great Britain to prevent a repeat of such a thing as Dunblane. I think if the Americans who want to see this kind of change reframed the argument in this manner, rather than getting on their high horse and belittling rednecks for being working class at every turn, they would have a lot more success pushing for change.
The weird thing with America is that typically the places with tighter controls have worse gun crime rates, Chicago for example. It's probably easier to obtain firearms illegally when you can just pop round to another state and buy them there. The fear that's been whipped up in the states that do allow guns to easily be accessed definitely comes across as "They want to take our guns" and usually the talking points are along the lines of being left "defenceless" - even if it's deranged the states system America has means they do actually need to win NRA types over to get anywhere with this.Think California has tighter gun restrictions that most of the States.
Admittedly don’t live there or watch CNN or anything but most debates I see coming out from America is for tighter controls and not outright bans.
America doesn't have a left.Let me guess, it's the lefts fault?
