Yeah I meant a federal military.

Our founding fathers fought against the British and our founding fathers didn't want the future generations to suffer the same way they did, hence the 2nd amendment was very important at the time it was written.
yes, this is true but the threat was also from local revolutions (shays/whiskey) as well as slave rebellions.
The second amendment clearly refers to local militia and the need to have them well armed. They were necessary because there was no federal army.
If you look at supreme court rulings over the last 200 years (up to Heller) it's very clear that the right to 'bear arms' is referring to taking up arms in a military sense, not hunting or defending your home.
Until Heller, there was no successful legal interpretation of the constitution that said an 18 year old could buy an assault weapon for self defense.
Heller happened in 2008 with the help of the likes of the Koch brothers stacking the supreme court and the gun lobby buying power.

What we're dealing with here is raw capitalism showing a complete disregard for American people. We're basically eating ourselves.

It's the trust era all over again. We don't have 70-80 hour workweeks - we have jobs (if you want to call so-called "independent contractor" gigs jobs) that pay so poorly that people have to work two "part-time" 30 hour jobs, or even two 40 hour workweeks. The Congress is bought and paid for, which stacked the Supreme Court full of justices of similar mindset. Our monopolies are tech rather than sugar, rail and oil.

It took organization and decades to unwind that mess. If it's going to happen again, the process will likely be similar.

The country badly needs strong anti-trust laws and unions. A lot of other problems would naturally go away if more Americans could reach a comfortable middle class status again.

Of course the racism might not go away so we'll have to find a way to sort that.

Which is one of the reasons big tech is so keen for you to put all your data in one place, on their servers. They can sell details of who's organising (or likely to) to employers (or would be employers) to blacklist and screen for those likely to stand up against them.

This is why i asked my follow up question

you have seemingly agreed that less guns means less mass shootings, but still are making the bizarre argument that they won't stop all mass shootings, therefore implying there's nothing that can be done.

So the simple question is whether or not a civilized society should to what it can to reduce mass shootings?

Why is my argument - that less guns won't stop mass shootings - bizarre ? It just won't. It's bizzare thinking it will. !

Didn't want to get " back into the argument " as people are getting personal, childish and pathetically nasty, but your post deserves an answer.

" implying there's nothing that can be done.", no, I am NOT implying nothing can be done. Will enforcing stricter gun control measures, stop the number of mass killings ? YES, 100%

Will it stop mass killings, NO

You ask what a civilised society can do to stop mass killings. ? NOTHING. You will never be able to stop mass killings because as humans have a propensity to act cruelly, inflicting death and pain on our fellow citizens. To stop mass killings you will need to alter man's mindset, cognitively that's not possible. There are just too many, unpredictable " evil " people who don't care for people, are happy to kill people but who are unafraid of the consequences of doing so. I want to reduce the guns but the crazies will always come to the fore.

@Pittsburgh Footy did not ask what a civilised society can do to stop mass shootings. He asked what it could do to reduce them. It was the last line of the post of his you replied to. It would help if you could read what people actually type and respond to that rather than make quotes up.
