In all sincerity, while banning firearms is almost certainly not likely in the foreseeable future, it is fair to say that the general response in the US is utterly absurd.Apologies if I offend, but this is very ignorant.

In fact, I would suggest it is bordering on reckless. Clearly there are those who do support legislation, but as an outsider the overall response makes me cringe.
You only have to look at the number of mass-shootings, homicides with firearms and crimes with a firearm; compare them with nations with similar % of firearms.
Look at the response after many of these mass crimes: blame the police... blame the state... blame mental health. Why not simply blame the use of firearms?
That's not focusing on yourself and your post if that is how it may come across. Rather, as a person outside of the US the lack of action is incredibly frustrating.
What I fail to understand however, is that the 2nd amendment is what it says - an amendment. Therefore, why can't there be further amendments? The lack of action is indeed frustrating. The NRA has a stranglehold on the country much like big tobacco used to have. Because a supreme court justice long ago interpreted the constitution a certain way on a very weirdly worded amendment, we are where we are. The NRA won the war that day.

And after the amendment is made it has to be approved by 3/4ths of the state legislatures which also is never happeningArticle 5 of the constitution requires 2/3 of both the house and senate to make an amendment. At a federal level I don't think we could get 2/3 of congress to agree on anything.
States can and have passed varying levels of gun control, but some states will 100% stand by the NRA.
So sad and seemingly never ending
Looking like access to guns isn’t the only issue in this casethe solution is so simple, and proven elsewhere in the world (UK, Australia, Norway etc).
Ban all guns = thousands of lives saved.
the rate of US deaths due to guns is actually at civil war levels.
