I didn’t rule anybody out. I have no idea which Republican or Democrat Presidents were for or against guns. But now that you raise it, if as per your insinuation Democrats are against guns, why the hell have they not done anything about it. You mention Obama, who I happen to think was mostly a waste of space, and he had 8 years, 8 years as the most powerful man on the planet and he did what , apart from give out platitudes and wring his hands....if it’s political what did Clinton, Carter, Johnson, even JFK who I revered as a kid, actually do, how long does it take for someone to change the law. This is not political and I’m not trolling, but those who are against guns are, in my humble opinion, cowards, because they did nothing.......

Oh please...you know this already. You need a majority of congress to pass gun-control legislation and time and time again, Republicans are against it. Google it for yourself.

I may have to backtrack just a little bit from my last post. I saw no chance of progress as a cult like state is difficult to get out of, but it would appear some there are waking up:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoughts_and_prayers

The spotlight being shone on the bullshit response has seen Trump the atheist freshening it up a bit with "prayers and condolences".

Won't hold my breath though as the likelihood of actual change is nigh on impossible as only a fringe are seeing that the Emperor is not wearing any clothes regards the entire issue. The rest are too far gone I feel. There's no capacity for critical thinking when brainwashed. It's an admirable but futile effort from those partaking in these marches coming up.

Besides offering "prayers" , the other pathetic response is "mental health". Yes because mental health isn't an issue anywhere else...UK and Australia for example have no issues at all. Fact is there are people with mental problems wherever you go, what is different is most places don't have the population armed to the teeth.

And as an afterthought, I read that there is about 1 gun for every American citizen in the USA, over 300million, might it be that the likes of Obama etc we’re just frightened of losing votes.........cowards, political cowards.......

Based on the reaction you've seen so far, and the general response of congressmen, lawmakers and much of the American public over the years, do you think it would be an easy thing to change American gun laws?

Admit it Pete, Legs is smashing you here and you're talking out your hoop

You know what would be really helpful in determining if drugs, or mental health was a determinant of school shootings? It would be that the Centers for Disease Control wasn't blocked from studying this exact issue by the NRA-owned Republican congress.

Then at least shift the focus and the light onto this aspect, because no progress is being made on guns......

Then just admit nothing can be done and keep wringing those hands every time some nutter shoots a load of kids.....

Increased availabilty of guns and ammunition, and decreased price.

Has drug use only increased in America?

Of course not. But I suspect it still has something to do with it, as does your suggestion. Add things like the desensitizing effect of ever more violent video games, a lack (at times) of parental guidance, the 24/7 bullying over social media and that's a pretty good recipe for disaster.

I think these latter things you mention are actually more likely determinants of school shootings/violence than drugs.

Perhaps. It's clear, though, that there simply isn't just one root cause for this rash of senselessness.

It's certainly a far more complex issue than just guns, but there's no question in my mind that there is a larger than average arsenal available to disturbed people in the US and an obsession with guns that probably won't go away without a bit of regulation
