It's insane mate. This thread is only for major shootings. There's so many they barely make news in major cities, in my small "city" (about 75k) shootings only make headline news if someone dies.

Perhaps you could link the article Pete and we can find out what evidence the writer bases their claim that in most attacks the shooter had been a drug user. The typical profile of mass shooters I've seen suggests a history of pot use but not other drugs - domestic violence history has been a lot stronger correlation.

Haven't seen anyone put into context what you would have expected with general population growth but it certainly feels there has been an increase in recent decades. Doubt it is due to any one single factor although iirc quite a few shooters have said their "inspiration" was Columbine.
I’m not sure the writer even has the detail, I was just intrigued by the suggestion. Your graphs though do suggest a massive increase since the 1960/70’s, when drugs became prevalent. Like you, I don’t believe there is one single cause, but we do need to think beyond the obvious.......

We cant get our head round it mate. Near me, a lad was shot by police in a terror operation, and the motorway/interstate was shut for 3 days to get evidence and that.
Not sure than the US is much different than rest of world in drug use, heck drugs are legalized in Portugal yet this was the only thing I could find for school shootings in Portugal and this looks like a domestic dispute that just happened to take place on school property

I’d like the CDC to have the funds and remit to look at all ways that shooting deaths and injuries could be reduced but Pete it would also have to include the obvious which is why Republicans refuse to allow the CDC to study it.

I agree. I would hope that one of your governments, Republican or Democrat would have the balls to ban these weapons, but in spite of all the deaths none of them have. They have all had their chance and I cannot fathom why no one has pushed this through.......
Clinton did ban assault weapons in 1994 but law sunset in 2004 during Bush admin. One of my senators Dianne Feinstein reintroduced a version of that law after Sandy Hook, all Republicans but one voted against it.

I find it astonishing that pro gun activists in America cannot see the issue when they say "teachers need to be armed" or shout for armed security in schools. The mere face that it is needed is the problem. There should be zero guns in a school.
