Two callers to that radio program I listened to yesterday stood out.

1. This guy called in to vehemently say that the shooting was liberal's fault because of abortion. The devaluation of life is why this kid shot up a school. Apparently this is a common argument from the right according to a friend of mine who has lots of conservative friends on FB.

2. Another caller was livid that the grandmother who called 911 after reading her grandson's journal invaded his privacy. The kid was planning a bad day in Bosnia about 30 miles from where I live. He also admitted to armed robbery with his AR-15 at a liquor store. She probably saved a bunch of lives including her grandson's but she is the one in the wrong.

It's crazy.

Trump's 'budget' will drastically slash money allocated to assist with mental health issues.

Trump also repealed an Obama era law that restricted gun access for people with mental health issues. The 2nd amendment lads always respond the same though. They will say there's no point, bad men will do bad things and if you can't eradicate it there's no point in even trying to reduce it. I don't think that it's a particularly sincere stance either, the fact is, there are enough Americans with loud voices who love guns as a commodity and no amount of dead kids will make them want to give them up

Most here support the second amendment. Half the people I know have instant access to guns.
What's needed is reasonable gun control. There are tonnes of reasonable proposals that have been turned down.
The NRA has turned in to a well armed/well financed hate group and the sooner it becomes obvious that this is not in Americas best interests, the sooner we have common sense gun reform. That will start in November.... hopefully.

Vote would be to change amendment not repeal it...

I'd have thought the lesson should have been long ago learned that threatening to repeal / tinker with it only ever produces more newsprint and sells more guns. Better to look at what the amendment actually says and build a policy based on that.

I often wonder what exactly it would take for most "pro-gun" people to change their views. I'm assuming that at least some of the parents of those killed in this latest shooting would have been strong pro-gun people. Do you reckon their views would have now changed following such a tragic loss of a loved one?
