Got no sympathy anymore, it seems the Americans love their guns more than they love their own children. Any other civilised nation would have banned guns but they seem to blame everything and everyone else but guns.

Sorry but when it comes to things like this I have zero sympathy for Americans, they chose their gun laws and their president so they have to kop the consequences.

There are mass killings going on every week in the world and they get short shrift in our media.

Why is there so much focus on American affairs in our news?

In my view it’s because they (the USA) tend to lecture the world on how they should run their countries then come up with wham when something like this happens.

They also possess a president who likes to tweet total rubbish about other countries (like what he said about UK crime figures and equate that with terrorism) but when a white dude shoots up and kills x amount of people it’s all of a sudden a mental health issue.

More people die from gun violence in the US then anything else but their insistence of having a gun culture where almost anyone can get gun leads to tragedies like this but because the NRA is so wealthy and powerful I won’t change.

The US establishment is more concerned with money and re election then what’s best for their citizens. How many more massacres need to happen before Americans get it ?

I hunch is they will never get it as money can by excuses and divert attention something the NRA are masters of

apoarently there is no legal requirement for background checks in a private sale in Texas.

Could just be yet another example of a gun being bought legally then becoming illegal down the line, but as we know banning guns won’t effect availability
Yup, the old gun show rule. There's people that are hobby sellers that only sell at gun shows, make good money and don't need to check anyone they sell to as they're not registered businesses. Good times.

Trump on Sutherland Springs:

“We have a lot of mental health problems in our country, as do other countries, but this isn’t a guns situation … we could go into it but it’s a little bit soon to go into it. Fortunately somebody else had a gun that was shooting in the opposite direction, otherwise it wouldn’t have been as bad as it was, it would have been much worse.

“This is a mental health problem at the highest level. It’s a very sad event … these are great people at a very, very sad event, but that’s the way I view it.”

Nailed it - at the highest level, the President lacks the intellect to see this was "a guns situation".

And this appears on my FB today.

Aye, true that.

What a shame, then, that before he's stopped the bad guy with the gun mows down 27 people.

But still, he was stopped. And that's the most important thing. Those people bought time for the good guy with the gun to get the bad guy. Heros, in a way.

Mass shooters have lots of different ideologies/goals but one thing that is very common among them is domestic violence.

Officials Monday wouldn't describe a motive but said there had been a "domestic situation" between the shooter and his mother-in-law before the massacre in which the suspect had sent the woman threatening texts.

Kelley is a former U.S. Air Force member who served from 2010 to 2014. Records confirm Kelley previously served in logistics readiness at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico until his discharge in 2014, Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek said in a statement. He was responsible for moving passengers, cargo and personal property in military transportation.

Kelley was court-martialed in 2012 for two counts of assault on his then-wife and assault on their child, Stefanek said. He received a bad conduct discharge, and reduction in rank and confinement for 12 months.
