Such a shame. Reading about the 5yo boy shot four times is horrific.

Having a gun makes you invulnerable to bullets, didn't you know?
Just doesn't even sound like a first world country any more.

Honestly it's infuriating. Republicans always say that it's wrong to talk about gun control in the wake of a tragedy involving guns. How dare anyone politicize a tragedy.

But within hours of the New York City truck attack the President of the country was using it as political capital regarding immigration.

It just baffles me.

after Las Vegas, how many of you (Americans) wrote to your elected officials? how many of you took any sort of action? did you take part in a march? reach out to anyone? find like-minded people in your area and organize? get involved with an existing gun-law reform group? or make a donation? or even so much as think about ways you could theoretically contribute?

no?

on a normal day, the people in America who want unrestricted access to guns care far, far more about this issue than we, the gun control people, do even on the days when we most want gun control.

until that changes, nothing else is going to change.

If only everyone had guns, we'd all be safer! This is obviously true because a battlefield full of armed soldiers is the safest place to avoid getting shot.

I looked earlier but I could not confirm that he actually said that.

Just want to make sure he really did.

If it is true it's an insane town argument. Firstly he ambushed folks in a church. Soldiers in combat die in ambush situations...the same fate applies to church goers...except they aren't wearing body armour.

Which brings me to by second point. The shooter was wearing body armor. Are we all going to start wearing bullet proof body armour each and every waking moment?

I am reading that this guy was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force and his ownership of a semi-auto rifle was illegal. The right wing are saying that he owned it illegally and that gun control wouldn't have prevented it.

Perhaps they are correct...but @abelard is right. We only seem to care about gun control after loads of folks are killed by a crazy person. In the moment it is outrageous and infuriating.

But taking time to view it with a wider lens...yeah there are so many deaths at the hands of guns that it's well beyond time for everyone to be the adults in the room and make it hard as hell to get a gun. Offer massive tax cuts to those who turn in their guns. Involve vetting for ownership...even if that is a simple skills test, eye test, and a criminal background check.

Why would anyone argue against that? I mean it's harder in this country to legally drive than it is to own and shoot things. It's harder to get a job than it is to shoot something. The right to bear arms doesn't say that guns are arms.

Let's have a discussion...at the very least.

One of the things that's constantly thrown at me is that I'm 'anti-American'.

Lemmie get one thing straight. Every American I've met has been a wonderful experience for myself personally. One of the best aspects of American culture is the willingness to talk to strangers as if you've known them for 30+ years, and I love that.

Which is why I feel so aggrieved at the way America's run. Two party state, in which you couldn't slide a 50p coin between them, nothing changes.

apoarently there is no legal requirement for background checks in a private sale in Texas.

Could just be yet another example of a gun being bought legally then becoming illegal down the line, but as we know banning guns won’t effect availability
