If only everyone had guns, we'd all be safer! This is obviously true because a battlefield full of armed soldiers is the safest place to avoid getting shot.
I looked earlier but I could not confirm that he actually said that.
Just want to make sure he really did.
If it is true it's an insane town argument. Firstly he ambushed folks in a church. Soldiers in combat die in ambush situations...the same fate applies to church goers...except they aren't wearing body armour.
Which brings me to by second point. The shooter was wearing body armor. Are we all going to start wearing bullet proof body armour each and every waking moment?
I am reading that this guy was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force and his ownership of a semi-auto rifle was illegal. The right wing are saying that he owned it illegally and that gun control wouldn't have prevented it.
Perhaps they are correct...but
@abelard is right. We only seem to care about gun control after loads of folks are killed by a crazy person. In the moment it is outrageous and infuriating.
But taking time to view it with a wider lens...yeah there are so many deaths at the hands of guns that it's well beyond time for everyone to be the adults in the room and make it hard as hell to get a gun. Offer massive tax cuts to those who turn in their guns. Involve vetting for ownership...even if that is a simple skills test, eye test, and a criminal background check.
Why would anyone argue against that? I mean it's harder in this country to legally drive than it is to own and shoot things. It's harder to get a job than it is to shoot something. The right to bear arms doesn't say that guns are arms.
Let's have a discussion...at the very least.
