....it did help that he didn't have easy access to guns, though. The Admiral Duncan explosion and a couple of others that month in London were crude, home-made bombs made with powder from fireworks.

Yes, you're right about the guns. I was talking about the desire to kill. Don't underplay the power of the bomb, however ... the scene was one of twisted metal and blasted walls. The Dunc still has a ceiling "artwork" of a large ball of the metal which gives pause for thought.

In short, nutters are everywhere; don't make it easy for them.

This is the big difficulty over there - you would have to do it totally and all at once, and even then it would probably result in the only people having guns being the fruitloops, criminals and the US Government, all of which have provided ample evidence down the years that they are the very last people who should have them.
Yeah I do think it's too much a mess, trying to take half a billion guns off the US people would be a nightmare, how the hell would you go about it

make it illegal, give any gun owner a 12 month period to return their weapons and if they are later found to have kept their illegal guns then they have to face the music and explain themselves in court and pay the price.

You must admit possibly over 50 million people would say no

No mate too logical, it won't/can't work, America doesn't work like that.

I say massive shootout by all gun owners. Preferably in the centre of each city they live in, or school.

....'don't make it easy for them' is perfectly true. I watched a programme about those London bombings in the last day or so. Bloke responsible was ex-BNP who targeted non-whites and gays. As you say, some very odd and dangerous people about.

They don't know who owns many of those guns though, and most of the murders are carried out by people who should be banned from having them anyway.

As Congen says it would be a nightmare.

So a jihadi has gunned down a load of people in a nightclub? Good job Europe has strict gun laws that would stop this kind of thing!

May as well start now and benefit the generations after us.

Continuing to leave them on sale is only keeping the deadly cycle going.

Not sure that it is, though it certainly makes murder (and suicide, since they have 20000 of those a year with guns) a lot easier. There are a whole raft of social issues that would be easier to fix and which would probably have significant effects on bringing the numbers down.
