I’ve posted several other things about this Representative, but she just keeps doing everything wrong. These two tweets were sent mid-riot. How could she possibly think disclosing information about what security was doing and where Congresspeople were (or weren’t) in real time was acceptable?

I think this thread is quite illuminating in light of Abelard's castigations about how the Dems have lost the Republicans and it's the Dems fault, blah blah blah. The Dems are clearly not the broken party.

A coup? The USA government know something about coups as they orchestrate them across the globe and the body count does be very very far from one cop. If they really were attempting a coup everyone of them cops would be waisted. They were just a bunch of stupid bigoted protesters ignorantly questioning the validity of an election that occupied some buildings for selfy opportunities.

The majority may have been stupid bigoted protesters but you can't deny that there were also armed militia and white supremacists groups (among the crowd of redneck idiots) that seem to have orchestrated rioting Capitol Hill. They may have even had inside help as they seem to have known their way through a building that has been closed to the public for almost a year. They easily found Pelosi's office, and office that's hidden within a a mazed of hallways. Even offices of other Democrats that were unmarked were found and trashed.. Thus some aspects of this revolt seem to have been orchestrated.

Well, you'll get no support for CIA sponsored coups from me; but we're dealing with the same issue - violent insurrection with the purpose of installing a dictator and crushing democracy.

They're not protestors. Go and look at the armed militia element to that crowd and the political statement's on many of their flags and banners.

That was an attemped putsch.

The only way to deal with it is by imprisoning hundreds if not thousands for life, and if some resist arrest then you use the opportunity to annihilate them and send down a powerful message to would be seditionists in the future. Basically: put their heads on a pike staff outside the castle gates.

By and large I would I agree that the violence by the state on that particular day was proportional to the threat (and wish the same had been the case in previous demonstrations) but that particular shot at the start of the video I don’t think was. Even on a practical level by focusing on beating the hell out of one person they left their colleagues alone to be overwhelmed and have the same thing happen to them.

And I don’t think arresting the people involved and charging them is “handling them with kid gloves”, at best most will probably lose their jobs and if you are seeking punishment well our jails are sadly very effective at providing it.

That mob had already beaten down two series of perimeter fencing further away from the Capitol building and injured police. That would have been known to the police whose actions you see early in that video. And that line of Capitol police you see in the video had already been let down by their commanding officers by not ensuring that they'd be supplemented by DC Police. In short: it was desperate policing but entirely commensurate with the threat.

As for arresting a few score clowns down the food chain of this coup: it's way off being a proportionate response. I think I can say with certainty that if that had happened in any major European state - armed takeover of parliamants/senates and multiple fatalities ensuing - then the perpetrators feet wouldn't touch the ground. In the next 48 hours there'd have been thousands in prisons lifted on intelligence and (engineered) shoot outs and killings of the hard core of militiamen attempting to overthrow government. That hasn't happened in the US and I cant understand why. The nature of the threat to your democracy is dire: fail to hammer these fascist insurrectionists at every level and they'll come back stronger and overwhelm your nation.

I mean, this perfectly sums up the disconnect. When there’s QAnon conspiracy theorists storming the Capitol, people still refusing to accept a now certified election, and continue to falsely allege fraud despite no credible evidence, and 5 dozen law suits on the subject all having been thrown out due to lack of evidence, and those people then accuse the ‘other side’ of believing ‘endless conspiracies‘

Where do you go then, how can you possibly have a reasoned discussion? This is where alternative facts leads us.
