I’d add a qualification to that - it depends what he says to his followers.

Because you make these sweeping stances of "you really can't get back to 0 TOO fast because it might offend these people" but then ignore when people ask why. I've asked you twice to explain how we are supposed to just sit back and allow this to move at a nice leisurely pace when the Paris accords are too extreme for these people and reducing fossil fuel is too extreme but you just either can't or won't answer either way.

I'm not opposed to your position at all. In fact, I share it. Yet it is a common refrain among sycophants of the current POTUS that we just need to listen and try to understand "middle America" or "flyover country" - as though we do not.

I'm routinely around folks who live in small-town, white-bread Texas and have been my whole life. Their concerns are quite familiar to me, and truly not all that different than the brown-skinned folk who live on the West Side of San Anto. Yet, as you suggest, the messages they receive routinely divide them and have done so for 200+ years.
