I think the first part of that is actually generally true. People hated Trump and badly wanted rid of him, but it didn't convert to actually hating the wider Republican party.

Virtually all the Dems who lost were first-term seats taken in the midterms from R-districts.
Yeah because Trumps base grew, as did the Dens, but it only translated to the Presidential race. It wasn't a referendum on the Republicans.
I believe the phenomenon has a term, roll off or something. Where the Presidential race doesn't match the others.

I didn’t see his remarks, but he does unfortunately have reason to be upbeat about the results of state legislature gains. Republicans are going to get to redraw a lot of districts in their favor, so I doubt they’re in the minority in the House come 2022.
